To the Japanese we are poor!
So here goes . . 
Had a pleasure of meeting a girl from the land of the Rising Sun the other day, down the pub . . .
. . .Yes . .You guessed it . .I may have been slightly drunk . .
. . .So after striking up a coversation 
, I proceeded to state (in the hope that it may impress) that I drive a SCOOB . .Who knows . .Maybe she built it . .
. . . .However, I immediately realised that she was not impressed, and insinuated that in Japan its a bit of a plebs car, uncool, and in use by mainly mini cab drivers!!!
So I crash and burn! . . .
Lesson: a) They are not impressed . . .
b) Don't chat up girls when pissed!
c) I believe the Shinkansen is faster/more efficient!

See above and in 20 years experience of working with them I didn't know any one of them whilst in the UK to buy a japanese car - they all want german cars but can't afford them (or the parking spaces) at home

There are a few Local Japanese Uni students down my way who drive Jap cars done up in the "Fake And The Dubious" style.

Having been to japan (Tokyo) they are not used as minicabs (normally its Crowns i think they are made by toyota) you only normally see them on the Wangan(the main motorway) racing.
I agree with meganesport.net see was most probably from the UK and jusrt didn't want to talk to you(no offence)

The Impreza is deinately not looked down on in Japan or other Asian countries. The Japs etc pride themselves on the performance cars they manufacture for reasonable money... and you only have to look at the tuning companies out there to see that interest and respect for the Impreza amongst other's is very high. Sure they do want German car's like BMW's as it is a status symbol to have a European manufactured car, but that's not to say they look down on the Impreza. The Subaru's I've seen in Asian have often been highly modified and in fast moving 'convoys' late at night.

To be fair to the scoobs humble pulling power, when i 1st got my scoob i drove all of the girls in my team at work out to a lunch meeting (crammed 4 in.. lol), and comments ranged from an excited 'wow i love it, it just pullssss and pulls ' (followed by much giggling and engine noises when i booted it :P) to a less enthusiastic 'if only it was a soft top..' to a complaint that it was 'too loud and made me squeal i was scared'

Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin etc have real pulling power.
You are deluded if you think an Audi or BMW has real pulling ability.
But then again there are the other 95% of women who couldn't care less about cars.
