API are one of the most respected Scooby specialists on here. It sounds like a bargain.

With all the usual reservations.

What are the tyres, brake pads and discs like?

You are considering buying BIG trouble!!!!!

It's £1000 too cheap .... and there is ALWAYS a reason why - ALWAYS!!

API may be OK, but the car might not be!

I assume he hasn't had it long?? And why is he selling?? How many Owners has it had??

There's simply no need to buy inferior Imports these days ... lots of proper UK cars about!

Do a full HPI check on it for a start, will know more about where you stand then.

My guess is that you'll find it was a cat c or d write off.

Does the HPi check work on a recent import??

How does it check what happened to it in Japan then? Or is it just a 11 month check?

Just covers what has happened in the UK.

Another plus point for a UK car aswell i guess, at least you can see (to an extent) what has happened to them in the past

just got this back from the guy after i asked him a few more things

I have no knowledge of any parts changed other than the suspension. The
dealer (Midland Autos) told me the belt was changed service book I have
claims the cam belt was changed when imported. There is an entry in the
service book that bears this out. The API service is stamped at 50k. There
is no entry to say what the speedo reading was in km so I have to assume
this is their estimate. The MOT at this point states 82,298 which was in km.
The MOT when I brought it states 93,593 which is a mixture of km & miles.
The speedo reads just 101,500 ish now.

Tyres are ok, but as stated the wheels have rusted and need to be replaced.
I had a set of mintex pads put on the front about 200 miles ago. The front
discs have grooves so I guess there are tarox disks, but there is not much
groove left. Not having these disks before. I can not say how much life is
in them.

I have not had any issues with this car other than the suspension and a
minor anoying thing wheer the rear washer will spray water if accelerated
hard. It starts, stops and does what it should with no blips.

There is 1 previous owner in the UK. It was imported in 2004. The interior
is unmarked although a valet would always be a bonus with any car. The boost
gauge is screwed to the dash, perhaps not the best idea, but I have not
moved it due to the holes this would leave.

2 owners in 28 months .... or in as little as 16 months - not good.

These cars, if good, are kept by one owner for quite a time ..... 2 in such a short period of time isn't good.

However, the response seems honest enough .... what does he mean by suspension replaced??

Plenty of good UK cars around with owners who have had them for years ......

Well, a P1 was Subaru UKs attempt at supplying an Impreza to the UK market instead of buyers going for Jap Imports ... it was a 2-Door.

Not sure why this car would warrant a P1 Suspension under warranty???

My (inferior ) Import Wagon does that - It isn't actually spraying, just water being thrown out by the G-Force (not sure if that is really the correct term!) when accelerating very very hard.

At least that shows it goes ok

You're right - it's actually a built in feature so that when your import is racing a granny in a 1.1 Fiesta you can see here properly sitting right up your ****

whether it's been changed under warrenty is not really relevant, the P1 suspension is about the best springs/shocks combo for uk roads. if it's got them, who gives a toss how they got there?

personally though, it does seem too cheap, prices like that normally go with accident damage.

if i were you i'd get an inspection done as this should give you a fair judgement on the car.

not a fan of personal imports and i certainly don't trust the mileage of a car that has scribbles for a service history

pays your money, takes your chance. could well turn out to be the bargain of the century

82,298 Km = 51,025 miles

Assuming conversion to miles at that point total = 51,025 miles + (101,500 - 82,298) miles = 70,227 miles total.

BUT you originally said it came into the UK at about 63,000 Km? If so and it was converted then it has done 77,560 miles.

Still confused? I am lol

from what i have been told api impreza know their stuff and are the ****. one reason why bf is taking his wrx there on tuesday to get it de-restricted. brilliant price and done in half and hour can't beat that. other place we rung told us that we would have to pay for the part upfront before they started work on it. bollocks to that i said and eung api impreza back to get us in. to be honest like i said to bf, i would rather he take his car to someone as reputable as api impreza then someone dodgy dealer like where he got the car from.

Why don't you contact David at API Engines (aka API Impreza). He's a geniune, honest bloke with some serious knowledge of Impreza's. He'll at least give you any info he may have on the car, inc. confirmation of the cambelt change.......

not only that people will park their car in a posh area to make out that is where they live where in reality they don't and just want to get rid of the car. big giveaway is when they don't invite you into their home and they don't go into a house either.
