water cooled turbos don't really need them. Just don't do anything stoopid like a big WOT 6th gear attack, then pull up and turn engine off, give it a few seconds to recover. Ideally, drive for the last minute or so without using full boost.
PS this is probably about to become a 6 pager complete with : and

From the horses mouth (Subaru)
After a period of hard driving, you should let the turbocharged Impreza models idle for at least 1 minute. This allows the circulating engine oil to dissipate most of the excess heat that has built up in the turbo. Failing to do this can leads to increased thermal stress on the turbo (particularly bearings), and in severe cases can literally "fry" the now stationary engine oil, turning it into a useless sludge. Continued abuse can also lead to "coking" of internal components (carbon based deposits which are both damaging and difficult to remove). You should never switch your engine off immediately after hard driving, no matter how much of a hurry you are in.
so if you need to let it idle for atleast a minute i dont see why having a turbo timer is such a bad thing. I let mine run for a couple of minutes.

great bit of kit IMO, had the Blitz on the 200sx and found the boost reading/warning very useful. Also great for cold mornings, can start it and leave it running for 10 minutes wwith the doors locked - no more scraping iced windows. Having said that, I have not put it in the scooby yet as have not found out how it interacts with the alarm. I just drive gently for 5 minutes then let it idle while I open the garage and put the lock on etc etc.

It's really simple. Here are your options.
After HARD driving....
a) Drive the last mile off boost, park up, switch off
b) Don't cool down for the last mile, park up, leave to idle for a minute, switch off
c) Same as B but let a gadget do it. This seems a little futile if the TT doesn't work in conjunction with your alarm and so you have to stand around anyway (which is daft beyond belief ). If it does work with the alarm then you can recover a minute of your life which you may have used listening to the radio, tidying your cabin or watching the world go by.
Personally, I think the only way they represent value for money is if you're a multi drop driver in a wagon who hits peak boost 500yds before the destination and has an alarm friendly TT (assuming you don't leave the engine running )

My old scoob had one but personaly i think they are not needed at all. Like its been said just drive off boost for the last couple of minutes before you get park up and switch off.
Plus if you ever did kill your turbo by driving on boost then turning the engine off imedietely all the time then look at the good side of it, perfect excuse to buy a bigger turbo

I had a Pulsar GTi-R, which came with a Turbo Timer and that was integrated with the alarm, so would run for the time set, switch the engine off, close all windows & doors and alarm.
I used it maybe 2 or 3 times, it's just a gimmick really. And something made me never fully trust it to do everything...
