If it's a WRX I would use Alliance, if it's an STI I would fax every main dealer within 150 miles to see who will give you the best deal. You should be able to get a UK car for not much more than an EU import.

Or you could try Litchfield imports - Jap spec with their 3 year warranty and powerstation next door, who know a thing or two about scoobs. The next Impreza I buy is coming from their although in fairness it will be a while before I get another.
Everything I have read about both companies on SN has been really positive at worst and generally people rave about how good both are to deal with etc etc.

You could also try local dealers for EU imports - I just bought an Sti EU from my local one! The difference in price between the dealer and Alliance/Motorpoint (when they bring it up to spec with alarm/nuts etc.) was around £1k - and the supermarkets offered a poo trade-in as usual.

I bought my WRX Wagon from Motorpoint 7 months ago and the price difference was £5,400
You have to add £350 for alarm, £275 for Road tax & fees, £80 for first service and £25 for wheel nuts making the saving a whopping £4,670 on list.
A tad more than £1,000 I think.
Oh and with Maltesers you get the comfier seats too

Alliance or Litchfields - depends whos nearer you.
Both these companies have been importing EU cars for a while and know what they are talking about - not sure about the likes of motorpoint who dont specialise in subaru.

thanks for all input
i've rung Alliance and motordepot, alliance are stopping doing subarus apparantly according to the girl i spoke to, motordepot are more pricey and dont have the side bags,
still a good deal though, i drove a demo car from a local dealer, not quite the level of punch i was hoping for but the PPP pack seems to add lots of torque so i may get one and then save up for the pack later!

I'm in Cheshire, Cambridge is a bit far unless the deal is really good!!
Alliance would have been perfect, have a guy here who raves about them he got his 05 Scoob but we will have to see if they are doing them in August

What he said - but I'd contact the main dealers about WRX's or STi's - deals are available.
I know you are after an MY06 (I just don't like the look, especially the STi with the extra rear wing over the rear window - sorry) but I've just done the exercise for Pre-Reg MY05 cars on 06 plates - there are some competitive deals available. Don't accept the 1st prices given either.
Cheers

no worries, it always helps to look around first
the Mrs has put her foot down and claimed we need to pay for the wedding first (24th june) should be back into scoob by august then, plus lets them iron out any early issues!!
just hopeing the deals are still to be had then
