Just take it out for a nice drive, wash and wax if the weather is fine, then take it for another drive. Then admire it for 1/2 hour, checking the car out all over. Then go for yet another drive.

What year is the car etc?

I have a bailey dump valve, but want to change it back to standard. The noise is ok to start with, but will get on your nerves eventually. And apparently it's not so good for the engine, as the metered air that is released is not accounted for. Also it seems some people have idling problems with after market dump valves.

Get a nice sounding back box and centre pipe instead, if it hasn't already been done, much more satisfying! If done look at getting a sports cat downpipe.

Dont do anything to it.. except the obligatory cleaning of course.

This will get you used to it.. i mean the general performance, turbo flat spots, how it boosts, braking, handling, any niggles, noises etc.

IMO dont bother with a d/v unless u really must..
look at brakes and handling first.

Yes, and easy to do in the first place, so don't pay for for fitment, just order one yourself and put it on. Keep the original, so if you decide to change it back you can. Get the quietest one, don't go for a loud one. I changed mine for a quieter one than when I first got the car, and it is not much different.

I assume it has an uprated panel filter too, check how clean it is and renew if necessary.

Sports cat next, then if you want to go further again, look at changing the ecu, but it starts getting rather costly then!

Teens if driven hard, up to 25 mpg when driven off boost.

I didn't notice any difference in fuel expenditure, coming from a long wheel base 2.5 diesel pajero.

Remember never drive on boost until the car is up to it's full working temperature, otherwise it may go wrong. And cool it down after hard driving, by driving off boost for a few miles, before parking it up, otherwise oil can carbonise in a hot turbo if left to stand, damaging the oil seals.

Okay so how long will it take to get up to temp?

It has a turbo timer so it will keep the engine running for a time I can choose.

No, some only do 97, and somedon't even do that, tesco state the grade on the pump with a sticker, so check out your local. Optimax is worth the extra too, otherwise esso 97 ron is ok.

About 10-15 mins to warm up, try not to go over 3-4000 rpm beforehand.

I have a turbo timer on mine (93wrx), leave it set at a minute or two, and always drive the last couple of miles off boost anyway.

So long as you don't thrash it to death, esso 97 or above will suffice. My 93 wrx is on it's standard jap ecu, so in the same boat. I've even had 95 ron in it in emergency, just keep the foot off the throttle until it is nearly empty again, then fill up with the good stuff again. If you are that worried, put the odd bottle of octane booster in. I've never used octane booster by the way.

Think i would rather stick to optimax just incase. I have been on the shell site and printed off all the petrol stations near me that have optimax, so hopefully i will be okay haha!!

Anyone know of a list or anything of tesco petrol stations that stock the 99ron??!!

Deano[/QUOTE]

WTF for? You don't need a ridiculous "I am taking a dump" valve, they sound insane

It's a new car, enjoy it as it is and put your money away for a rainy day sonny.

Drive it and enjoy it...........then get the dump valve after about a week........then you'll ease gently into the modding scene

Do what you want as it's your car..........plus timing the dump valve to PPTTTSSSHHH next to old ladies at bus stops is great

Ignore the oldies and goldies on here......

Happy motoring

I've got a 98RON piggyback chip on my import.

I've just had to shell out (unexpectidly) for rear and front pads and discs PLUS front calipers, now the exhaust is blowing (decat coming up), and the clutch is starting to slip in high gears when pushed - Save your funds for the unexpected over your first few months mate.

Where you from ?
