fixed speeding penalty fine
In january of this year i was pulled by an unmarked car for speeding (70mph) on a 50mph dual carriage way.
At the time the copper told me i had 3points coming my way and a £60 fine, as did the woman at the station when i surrended my licence.
Now i know speeding isn't big or cleaver etc before it all kicks off however, I've now recieved a letter saying the fine is £90 - since when did an SP30 (got licence back with with this code) carry a £90 fine?

A SP30 is given out if you speed in a 30mph Zone.
You must have another SP(number). Check the documents they hace sent you. It should say everything in there.
Bad luck anyway. 70mph isn't too bad, no worse than doing 90 in a 70 zone (motorway) we all do it. Those that say they don't are lying, or just trying to get everyones back up.

Did you just produce your licence at the police station or did you actually hand it over?
The police don't give you points and a fine, nor do they decide to fine you though they will probably give you a verbal NIP.
Any chance there was a court case and you were found guilty in your absence? That might explain the £90.
Loads of stuff here doesn't quite add up.

SP30 is the code i was given -i handed my licence in to the station along with the paper part and have since recieved it back with the code written on it.
When i was at the station the lady asked me if i was contesting it (which i wasn't) and told me to pay to the address on the back of the speeding ticket which you keep as a type of licence which yours is with the dvla.
So I sent the cheque of ages ago - about 3 weeks ago i noticed it hadn't been cashed so phoned the dvla to find out what was going on. They told me they hadn't recieved my licence from the police as yet so i should wait a few weeks longer as it often took this amount of time. About a week and a half ago i recieved the licence back so thought all was sorted.
Next thing i hear is the letter today stating the fine of £90.
They obviously didn't get my cheque, however the letter states it is a £90 and always was - any ideas?

) SP30 is speeding on a public road. I am not sure what SP60 is maybe it is "speeding on a public road with menaces"There is now a teir system for fines, don't quote me but it increases exponentially by the amount over the speed limit. Look at the DVLA site for details.

The fine is £60 + 3 points which goes up to £90 if you don't pay in 28 days.
Can you prove you sent the cheque - I always recommend people get a certificate of posting or send the cheque recorded delivery in case it goes missing.
If you can prove you sent the cheque I am sure they will end up accepting £60. If you can't prove you sent it you may end up paying £90.

My understanding (and I wait to be corrected) is that SP30s only apply on NSL roads, and roads which are 30mph because they are single carriageway in built-up areas etc. All other speed limits are in place because of local council orders, not the main road traffic law, so they are not "statutory limits". So in those cases SP60 is correct.

quick update:
called today and after going round the houses for an hour was told that it if i write a letter thlling them what i already have in my previous post they will drop the fine back down to £60 - went to £90 as they didn't revieve cheque
