Insurance on scoob for 18yo
Say if I got a scoob how much insurance would I be looking at for an impreza sport or turbo?
wasted time filling in forms on a couple of sites and they just told me to call for a price. Does this mean the price is gonna make me ?

Im sure you could get insurance on an Impreza turbo at 18 for about £2.5k depending on where you live, but whats the point?? They arent anything special at the end of the day - youre much better off getting a little hot hatch for about £1-1.5k insurance - almost as quick, and probably better image.
Leave the £2.5k insurance payments for exotica only.

Not a chance fella......the problem with getting a non turbo will still be the excuse they gave me 8 years back when I wanted to buy an xr3i with a 1.3 engine in it not the 1.6.
"You still have to insure it as a 1.6 as the thieves won't know it's a 1.3...."
untill they drive it away and I can catch them on foot

No chance, I'm 22 and still have major trouble with a lot of comapnies with my WRX. However there is a way around it - CIS offer 3rd party cover on any other car when driven with the owners permission for 18 year olds. So get a complete POS banger with as small an engine as you can find, insure it in your name with CIS, then put the scoob in someone olds name with full NCB and insure it for cheap with them. This is how i used to do it. The scoob was £300 fully comp in dads name, had an escourt that I insured for about 1K through CIS. Not a pretty solution but the only one this side of 3K.

I got the impression that most insurance companies wont touch someone under 25 for an impreza turbo so you may have to go for a sport, not sure how they stand with regards to that model

On a serious note though, you will have your pants pulled down over for a premium at your age.
Get a quote though, but try the ones recommended on here, greenlight, gary at keith michaels etc.
I would have thought that the premium will be on the silly side though.

Tweaky, theres no point getting miffed with people on here who are only telling you the truth...... 2 words...... No Chance! Wait until you're 21 like everyone else.
My first car was an astra diesel for one year, then a golf mk4 for 3 years, and then my scoob. At 21, I still had to pay 2.5K and get a tracker, so £3200!
Plus, if you really want an Impreza, why do want a sport ffs??

I am glad I started on low power cars first (bloody 56 bhp Chevette). It teaches you so much about driving quickly.
Without the power to cover your mistakes, you concentrate on line and keeping momentum.
When I was your age I wanted a Chevette HSR 2.6 twin cam which was for sale at MTRS for 4K, bough an Astra SR for 4k instead because of insurance, but would have loved that HSR.
Anyone know were it went ?, built by Midland tyre and rally specialists (MTRS) in burton on trent in about 1984/85. Was white with red and blue stripes, 2.6ltr engine with the twin cam head

He'd pay 3.5k fully comp on 150hp golf gti let alone a scooby. Or maybe its because all my knowledege of insurance is based on the fact I live in London. My mate payed 6k a year for his 320ci convertible when he first got it several years back.

As a bit of reference, I paid £2800 this year at 21 on my turbo.
My renewal is looking at around £1800, which is a serious drop over the course of the year.
I'd go with what's been said already, start with something lower powered to get a bit of experience and at least a couple of years NCB, then go berserk

Just to add to the bad news...
IF you can afford to buy a Turbo, then IF you can afford to keep it on the road ( if you are planning on buying a 'cheap' old one, then you need to look what spares and repairs and servicing costs are ) I'll bet you a tenner you won't get an insurance quote that is less than you paid for the car.
Theres a good reason why you dont see many 18 year olds driving Imprezas, and its not because they dont want to.

i remember when i first passed i was desperate to get the 'quickest' thing i could possibly afford to insure! that was a saxo VTR and cost me £1800!
cant believe i payed that now! 18 and spending £160 a month on insurance!
You wont want to accept it but the vast majority of 18yr olds are **** drivers! i know i was. Get me on a karting track and i always won, but driving on the road is completely different. get some experience mate
if i could go back i'd by the cheapest sh1tter i could find, build up my no claims and use the rest of the money to enjoy being 18!
i know its different when your that age, image is pretty important, but is a few people saying 'nice car mate' every now and then worth ~£250 a month??
ps sports aint even that quick!
pps neither are turbo's to be honest!
wait till your 21 and use the savings to get a Jap STi, thats where the action is!

If he is to be the main driver of the vehicle technicaly, then this option would be fraud, and also illegal.
They have high premiums for a reason and there is a high chance he might crash the vehicle, statistics prove this
i would go with the sport unless you have the money to just insure it. There will be people there to insure, its just a case of how much

because when you have to enter the REAL world and pay your own way, you're going to get hammered for the car-lifestlye in which you've become accustomed to.
Plus, IF, God forbid, you have an accident, your parents' insurance gets hit and they end up paying for YOUR claim.
No parent in their right mind would allow their 17/18 yr old to be insured with a high-performance car which has alot more ablilty than the driver on their own policy.
I know you want the best/quickest car as soon as you pass your test - I was the same, but even then, my 1st car was a 1.2 Nova and I was paying £1200 fully comp...... until I got my GTE, and then built up my experience of quick cars......
Fact of life.
