Default Engine Advice please

Just bought my first Scoob, MY95 WRX, bottom end has given up already.

I need to get on the road asap, as cheap as poss, been looking around and spoken to a few people and seem to have a few options so far...........

A second hand STI V2 engine from www.japperformanceparts.co.uk which the Bucks said they will fit happily £750 (£1200 fitted) no warrantee
A second had WRX engine from Bucks Subara High Wycombe £900 (£1300 fitted) 30 days warrantee
A second hand engine from old faithful eBay £700 (with gearbox) no warrantee but a gearbox spare to sell
A reconditioned unit from the engineshop.co.uk in south wales £900 (£1400 fitted) 12 months warrantee

I know it seems like a no brainer but have been told that a recon at this price is probably not a good one at all.

Does anyone have any experience of any of these guys or know of an alternative in a similar price range that I could go for with a quick turn around. These guys can have my car on the road by Monday at the latest.

Thanks

John

Get in touch with David at API anyway to see what the options are. I've heard they're very approachable.

if you want it on the road cheap as possible, take it to bits, clean it all out thoroughly, grind the crank, stick some shells in.

Won't last long-term, but will get you going while you save up for a 2.5

Ok, WRX bottom end secondhand, should be able to find one for less than £500?

Otherwise, 2.5 bottom end, but you'll need a remap to get it running, then other mods to get it good

Will a new / 2nd hand engine make the car harder to sell on at a later date ie engine nr won't match if anyone does an HPI check? Also you won't know the history of a 2nd hand engine. It could "go" shortly after it's installed?

Xtreme Scoobies rebuilt the engine of my STi a while back + did a great job for a good price, £2800 from memory (few years ago mind).

A 95 car is 11 years old now so bottom end going is probably no surprise! It is a high performance car after all ...

TX.

Its easy enough to change the engine numbers on the V5, plus as part of the job whichever way I go I will be adding the uprated oil pump so it'll be a positive selling point.

Think I had a chat to xtreme on Sunday at Donny, £1500 is about my budget at the moment, he seems to think he can find me a good engine with 3 months warranty that should help for now, I'd then have my engine sitting ready for rebuild as the cash came up

Thanks again for everyones opinions and advise so far.

Think I'm def avoiding the cheap recon line though
