Default Low on oil after 5000 miles

I have done 6000 miles in my car since service. I must admit that checking my oil levels is something i don't always do. I had checked today and it was on minimum! I know for a fact it was on max straight after the service both checks were done from cold.

Is this normal to use so much oil? I have given the car a bit of good running in recently but still....

Cheers

Gary

P.S there are no oil leaks

my STI uses oil, especially running hot. You really should chk every week.

My old classic hardly used a drop but my P1 was the same as the STI

Alot of new age Subaru's use oil, it should state in the handbook to check the level every 1k miles or 1 week etc, though saying that, my MY03 JDM STi doesnt use a drop and that includes hard driving

I bought a new 2005 WRX 300 6 months ago and it had it's first scheduled service at 1000 miles.
I hadn't owned a car in the last 15 years which used any oil so had got out of the habit of regularly checking oil.
For some reason (luck) I checked the oil at 2000 miles and found it was on minimum (used approx 2/3 of a litre in 1000 miles!).
I spoke to several Subaru garages and was told anything up to 1 litre per 1000 miles was normal and not to worry about it.
I've kept an eye on the oil level since and topped up several times where necessary.
1000-2000 used 2/3 litre
2000-3000 used 1/2 litre
3000-3700 just under 1/2 litre
3700-5500 no oil usage

Although I didn't believe Subaru at the time I suspect my heavy oil usage was due to the engine running in and thankfully it has resolved itself.
I've since heard many turbo and other performance cars (BMW M5) drink loads of oil so I'll be keeping a closer eye on it from now on.

New cars can and will use oil. Quite simply due to the piston rings not seated and bedded into the bores yet.

Goes back into the darks ages that one
