Default Drilling mud-flaps

Final new thread from me (for now ).

I have searched for this (honest!) but have not found the answer on SNet.

I would like to fit a set of flaps to my MY06 WRX but don't want to be drilling holes in my new car. All the previous posts says drilling is required BUT if you look at the Performace Creation Ver. 2 flaps on e-bay it states -

Now with Brackets and fixings - Easy to fit - Pre Cut + All holes Pre Drilled to match the fixing holes already in your Subaru!!! The Business.... You don't need to be a mechanic to fit them, feedback says a full set can be fit in 45 mins

Call me untrustworthy , but has anyone fitted these and is it true?

Cheers!

Mark i've got Performance creations mudflaps on my STi and like u say it does say all u need is to use the self tappers provided. The only problem there is your trying to use self tappers into Metal, so if u use the laws of physics it's pretty obvious u do need to drill small 1-2mm pilot holes first.

It's a wheels off job at the front, i managed to fo the rears without taking the wheels off but to be honest it would of been a much easier job to have done the sensible thing and removed them.

Not a difficult job IMO, took me about one and a half hours all in to do all four.

If you want them to stay on then you have no alternative other than to drill the front inner wing. Some have 'glued' a treaded bar on to the inner wing, however, IMHO, not sure how effective this would be long term. If you drill just one hole per side (most brackets have two) and put plenty of underseal into the hole (leaving it to go off a little) you shouldn't have any issues with rust etc..!

Out of interest I used a pop rivet instead of a self tapping screw.

Just make sure you get flaps straight before drilling..!

Prodrive mudflaps from your friendly dealer. No drilling and rock solid.

Fitted Performance creations mudflaps on my STi without removing any wheels. All four corners were done in less than an hour.

Thanks guys. I will have a look and see!

Out of interest how much are the prodrive flaps from a stealer? (I assume this is a fitted price?)

SWRT ones are £175 front + £175 rears not fitted, same for the sti ones, the prodrive ones are £112.49 front + £112.49 rears, again not fitted.

I have had the scoobworld ones on my 04 and will probably get them for MY 06.

I am not up for doing much mechanical work on cars, and wasnt too impressed with the thought of drilling a whole in the car etc. But it really is easy, as long as you can follow instructions and work a drill. I bought some of the spray it told me to, covered the area once i had fitted the bracket, and never had any issues.

I recommend the mudflaps for bodywork protection, it keeps no end of stones away from the bottom of the doors.
