Looking to buy...
Hi people,
I am new to this site and don't currently own a Subaru, but I am strongly considering it. I'm torn between something fast but quite economical when you need it to be (non Subaru), or something really fast like an Impreza which I fear may suffer on long journeys etc. I am wondering, with a standard setup on a 215bhp Impreza, can anybody tell me the approx figures you see on MPG on a long run, being sensible etc etc? Can you get upwards of 35MPG?
Any help would be great, thanks!

I got 32.75 on a 350 mile run home from Devon once. Only once mind
Drove like Miss Daisy at 68mph all the way. Boring as Hell. The PPP actually improves economy BTW
as well as upping the power to 265PS and dropping the 0-60 below 5s
I'd suggest that if you want reasonable performance as well as good economy that you look at some of the TDi cars. Skoda Fabia vRS's with a remap, zorst and PD160 intake can get 220bhp and 330lbft if left in the hands of the likes of Jabbasport or Revo. Seat Ibiza/Leon's are similar. Octavia's can be made quite rapid too.

Welcome to the site
I've managed just over 30mpg on a 250 mile run, but again driving miss daisy at approx 70-80, no harsh braking or accelerating
Currently get 23-27mpg on my daily commute.

20-25 mpg likely, but in a different league than lots of 2wd cars, especially in slippery conditions. Expect 200-230 miles per tankfull on a classic, if lots of short trips nearer the 200, or light footed longer trips at 230. Lots of smiles per miles though. A pain in the a.se warming up and cooling down.
Good luck
Good luck
Cheers for the replies guys. I know it sounds stupid to put economy and impreza in the same scentence, but I am moving from a 2.5 V6 and I can't decide what way to go for sure. See mine averages on Parkers at 27 opposed to the impreza's 28, but on a run being REALLY good I can see 39MPG from it. I assume what lets the impreza down is the turbo being constantly a little wound up?
My other option is to go for something smaller with a 2.0l 16v NA engine for example and then cruise easily, but still be quite rapid when needed.
Appreciate comments guys. Either way from what I have heard the Impreza's a stunning car. MPG is not a big issue, but coupled with insurance and being just shy of 24 years old I am not sure how much I wanna spend on running costs, so I really fancied getting an idea on what these cars are like on a longer run
.
Unless I have to I would not have a diesel either

21st century diesels can be superb
The smaller TDi's I mentioned earlier are great, but you could look at the BMW 330D if you want something bigger. Faster than the petrol on the run

I'm not really keen on the sound of diesels more than anything TBH. I appreciate your suggestions, but whilst still able to afford something nice, I would really rather petrol at the moment. I have a few options in mind, but I was interested to speak to a few scooby owners.
