If you like the look of the Bugeye you'd better start your search at Specsavers!

Go easy on the lad guys
If it's what you want - go for it. You should be aware however that the bugeyes are a fair few kgs heavier than the classics and do feel quite tame. Nothing a few more quid on mods won't sort though

I just did.
My advice would be to save yourself £2k and get the latest classic shape Impreza, with the lowest milage and completely standard. It will be the one that depreciates the least, and in my opinion will look so much nicer than a bugeye. I had a bugeye as a courtesy car and didn't like it much and IMO it looks awful.

Buying private you might get cheaper, but at least from a dealer you get a warranty. The 01-02 WRX (Bugeye) lacks the initial punch of the classic turbo (like your friends) but is alot more refined. The cabin is also more solid and modern.

welcome
ignore the **** takers on hear hiding behind their pcs, probably spotty teenagers that were bullied at school.
bugeyes are a great car. reliable, solid and an improvement on the classic(obviously unless subaru technicians went in a reverse time warp), and they dont carry the same chav factor as the classics. did you ask for advice on which model to buy?... no, thought not, anyway.........
for 8-9 k you could buy mine, depending on where you are? look in for sale section!

Welcome to SNet
£8-9k could get you more motor than you think. I heard recently of a guy who couldn't find a buyer for his UK300 and had to let a dealer have it for £8.3k. I was even offered 8.5k for my 03 WRX PPP and would have thrown the tw@t through his showroom window if the G/F wasn't holding my leash. Cars in the FS forum on here will often have been treated with kidgloves, or you may be able to save a small fortune by them already having the essential mods which mean nothing when selling to non-enthusiasts. Do your research and view carefully, armed with knowledge. It may be worth getting to know the people in your local area at the meets and events, as we're often such friendly chaps we may come along to check a car out for you, or even better there may be a member who is selling just what you want.

You'll definately get a bugeye WRX for that price, I paid £9800 last May for a totally standard car and the prices have dropped quite a bit since then.
My advice would be to hold on for one that either has PPP already or has had some sensible (and auditable) mods, such as a performance exhaust and particularly an ecutek remap by a reputable company/mapper.
By auditable I mean you need to see receipts for the work so that you can confirm who did the work, what was done, etc.
People slag off the look of bugeye's and a lot of bugeye owners change the headlights straight away. I actually don't mind mine, I may change them eventually but they are well down on my list of mods
Here's a pic to whet the apetite.
