High Mileage Motor?
Regardless of the age of the car, what mileage do you consider to be 'getting on a bit'??
When I bought mine it was 52000K and every tells me that an engine like an impreza's is just bedding in then but Its the highest mileage car I've ever bought.
What do you lot think?? Anyone bought with a HUGE mileage or just run up one??

i've got 117,000mls on my 97 uk turbo, engine was re-built at 100k (due to failed oil pump) and just now the gearbox is being changed. Mileage does'nt bother me all that much as i never buy a car looking to get money back from selling it and i have no plans to sell it anyway. As long as the body of the car is in good nick thats all that matters, everything else can be replaced.
My old 205 had 164,000mls and was still going strong.
My old mans Audi 100 2L has just hit 243,000mls and still go's pretty well the bodywork is is good nick, no rust at all.

100,000 miles is when things start happening .... not with the car - but with peoples perception of it as a clapped out banger!
like said above - these cars are supremely reliable IF left well alone as Subaru intended them .... **** with them and you are into TVR reliability territory very early!! Which is criminal!!

Nothing wrong with a bit of sensible tinkering... a de-cat and remap isn't going to cause engine problems in my opinion.
It's more how you drive them rather than the modifications. Even if my engine goes bang ahead of schedule - it's worth it for the fun factor.

Tell you what, a rebuilt engine = £2000 .......
Buy a £2000 MX5 and have some REAL fun!!
Then, when you are done, sell it for £2500 .......
You have had fun AND got paid £500!!!
You need to look after your money!!

My 93 wrx is pretty much standard, has 104k on it now.
I have timed the car many, many times from 30-70mph through the gears, and always get under 5 secs. I have compared this to new cars stats, such as the 350z, focus st, & vectra vxr, and they are all slower in this region.
I am totally amazed by this as the car is 13 years old now, and I would have expected more deterioration of performance by now.
I heard subaru had excellent build quality & reliability years ago, I can only conclude that this is, or at least was, true.

You forgot to quote the money required for the sex change op necessary if you're a bloke who wants to drive an Mx5.
That rises the price somewhat!

High mileage depends on the car really, Something like an old school merc will clock up 200k miles and still be spot on, there are loads with over 300k on the clock.. But a 1.1 Fiesta will be pretty much dead at 100k.

De-catted MY93 WRX - over 150k on the clock, and still going strong.
Previously had a 1.6 Mk2 Astra which had 155k miles on someone parked in the back of it. Engine was sweet as a nut following a rebuild at 88k miles.....

Have previously had an Audi 80 2.0 5cylinder with 245,000miles on the clock and it ran surprisingly well, but I think Audi's handle mileage and age better than most.
I'd be perfectly happy buying a Subaru with 130,000miles on the clock for example assuming it had a good service record.

My last Nissan Primera run to over 200,000 miles before it was sold on, my current Primera GT is a spring chicken at 108,000 miles - and made bang on the power on the rollers recently.
My Impreza is only @ 31,000 though, so a LONG way for that to go.
Remember these are Japanese over-engineered cars, so last AGES.

37000 miles, new engine at 12000 due to failed big end.
It's had as many engines as it's had sets of tyres! (2)
Nothing else has gone wrong AFAIK.

Bought mine on 105k, now got 112k plus an engine rebuild 2000 miles ago. Still, the bodywork's good, mechanically it's pretty sound and I'm expecting another 100k out of it at least. It's just a question of maintenance.

MY98 UK Wagon, 99% as Subaru intended (H&S Backbox) 136k and still running smoothly (touch wood). No engine rebuilds etc full history confirms this.
Mileage isnt the problem it used to be, as long as it's looked after

My MY03 WRX (PPP)34k.......in for a rebuild due to no3 big end knock.Only had the car for a month too!!! Not sure why it failed, hopefully i'll have an answer when it is stripped??(oil level etc all ok) Very very disappointed with the brand atm, maybe it was just bad luck.Car is at api for the complete rebuild then hopefully i can finally 'enjoy' the car.
