Red face I'm Tempting Fate!!!!

Just carried out another 'normal' Oil Change

This is the second one in 6,000miles I have done like this - I have escaped this far ... how long can I last without doing the **** Oil Change Procedure??

I'm really worried, all I did was:-

1. Car up on 4-poster

2. Engine under tray removed

3. Remove Sump Plug

4. Drain Oil

5. Remove Oil Filter

6. Pre-Fill Oil Filter while oil drains (but I didn't let it soak overnight, like the ***** do!)

7. Replace Sump Plug with new washer

8. Screw on new Oil Filter

9. Fill with New Oil .... 5W-40 Fully Synthetic from Halfords, £19:99

10. Check level

11. Start engine, Oil light goes off immediately

12. Check for leaks

13. Replace under tray

14. Drive off and enjoy car

20 minutes

I am sure that I should really spend at least 3 hours doing the **** Oil Change and disconnect everything in sight - but, it was ok last time .... am I on borrowed time???

No, I just did it myself

Mind you, its the most highly qualified Engineer that I can ever afford to touch it - so, it's got it's upsides

Oh yes, I shall say that a Nuclear Warhead Design Engineer Serviced it - that should reduce its price!!

I think I can rest easy

Oh shut it Lewis, I've been doing the above for 5 years now, using worse oil than what you use

And 3 years beforehand the Subaru dealers did the identical thing

If I were you, I'd be taking STRAIGHT to your local Subaru Service/Dealer to get it done and stamped.

The reason?

You will need ALL the help you can get when you sell it - especially when the prospective buyer finds out who you are!!!

FSSH may (although doubtlful) sway a buyer into ignoring the fact that the car is owned by you!!!

"I hope you're going to declare all this neglect when you come to sell up"

Oops! Too late!
I used main dealer for servicing for...oh let me see.... erm... one year, maybe two, just to keep the warranty bit going, then realised you didn't need to get them to service it to keep the warranty.....

Had the car for 7 years now and it's history has been splattered all over the net and magazines, so think it's safe to say i'm doomed!

It's not a joke, it's the sound your engine is now making as a result of not adhering to the **** oil chance procedure!!

Just got back from town, it seems to be running as sweet as a nut ...... I just know that you can't get away without the **** Oil change, when will it blow!?

Right, I've a question for you - I need to bleed the brakes/renew the fluid, I know I need to start at the N/S rear, the O/S Rear, Front N/S and finally Front O/S.

I have an easi-bleed kit, so if I pop it on the rear N/S (without taking the wheel off) I can't see it as I go to top up the fluid in the engine bay - wife is pumping the pedal .... how do you know that the new fluid has repaced all the old stuff? - I reckon it should come in different colours so its clear!

Some people leave a filter to soak overnight? Are you serious or have you made that up? Overnight?

Well I just did an oil change and I was just wondering if I've broken all **** records... I left the oil filter to soak for 4 days LOL

It was only because I'd just got started and then something else came up so I had to leave the filter sitting on the bench until later on in the week.

Nice to know you protected your oil filled filter from picking up any dust or crap while it sat on the bench lol!

Your bonkers mate, complete waste of time.

I was flabbergasted at the time and remember it as you would! ScoobyNet has a lot to answer for!

getting ready for a post from pete asking how to get rid of a spongy pedal

noy sure how these easi-bleed kits work, but surely you'd be better off at the wheel you're bleeding through to close off the nipple when your new fluid has come through? you won't empty the reservoir pumping one wheel.

if your old stuff is anything like mine i'd be quite dark so will be easy to spot the new stuff coming through.

dot 5.1 fluid i hope

If you've an easi-bleed kit, you don't need your wife to pump the pedal Pete.
Or do you not read instructions.....

Who will pump the pedal for me then??

It's not one of those pressurised things - its just a one-way valve into a container.

Pedal needs pumping!

I think you should change all the pipes too, but leave them soaking in new fluid over night, they are like goldfish and need to become acustomed to their new environment.

really? mine was black as a hat.

i think 2 years is to service schedule, but it's a bit overkill from what i've heard.

doesn't hurt though, i'm sure you got the fluid for a bargainso where's the harm?

can you get to the nipples through the spokes then? must be a squeeze to use the spanner through them.

"pssst.. He's being sarcastic.."

Shh.... Make him feel like he's achieved something today. At his age he feels as if he's got nothing else to live for now that he's in his golden years... much like his brake fluid.... shhh

An easi bleed kit Pete is usually a kit which makes it easier to bleed the brakes, like a one man operation thing... you've been conned i think.
