Default Nitrous on a Sti6 RA?

Anybody running Nitrous in their scoob?

I have a dry Zex Kit with 75bhp jets. I’m prolly going to get some smaller jets (50-60bhp) and will definitely be converting the kit to a wet 50/50 fuel/nitrous setup (can’t afford for it to go pop at the first missed gear), but haven’t seen anyone on the Scooby forums running Nitrous.

Has anyone done this and can they please give me some advice?

Is ‘NOS’ and scoobs bad news? And how does it affect the running of the engine in terms of the O2 sensors and fuel mix etc.

Thanks, Al

I run wet Nos on a 205GTI, but not at a ratio of 1:1, I was under the impression it should be approx 2:1 Nos:fuel? I have been running this for 6 months now with no ill effects, 1.2mm Nos jet & 0.8mm Fuel jet

I wouldn't recommend running a dry kit on any car. Have a browse on www.noswizard.com they have very good forums for advice.

Thanks both for your advice.

when I said 50/50 I didn't mean this as exact sorry, just it was fuel/nos, my mistake.

I'll check out the forums but would appreciate advice from someone running it on a scoob

Not many people run it.

A few of the drag racers do it with very strong built engines.

I only know of a couple of standard impreza engines that have ran nitrous and both have gone bang.

You can get good bhp per £ with other well chosen mods.

There is no reason any engine (as long as it is in good working order) should be damaged by nitrous as long as a good quality kit is used, Wizards of NOS and it is installed correctly. I know it's not a Sub but I run a WON kit on a 2.0 16V Vauxhall engine with a 100 bhp shot through a progressive controller and have no problems whatsoever.

Neilo: I'll re-phrase....I dont know of any standard impreza engines running nitrous successfully for any significant amount of time.

Gatecrasher: You get more bhp per £ of mods on an impreza than you will on a na vauxhall engine. Sometimes its just a case of upping the boost or a remap, other times its a case of changing the turbos + supporting mods. That way you get the bhp you want (within reason) and its there all the time.

There is a little difference between a vauxhall n/a engine and a subaru turbo engine, mainly the turbo, id expect 100bhp jet would increase the boost every so slightly and break something

Cheap and dangerous way for more power IMO.

why not spend you money on breathing mods and a remap?

what if you already have pushed breathing mods to the Nth degree and have had umpteen remaps?

my intention is to try for somewhere close to 450 for the track/hill etc and have a shot for some extras at the strip.
what then Mr. S3th?

There was an RB5 a while back running nitrous with a tek2 map and the rest of the ppp kit. Originally 50bhp jets but bumped up to 75, plus was running 20psi boost with dawes.

It got run week in week out up the 1/4mile and seemed to hold together.. much to my surprise

I have only just seen this topic has been bumped.

You are right Bob but that wasn't the thread starters question. Whilst you will get more bhp for your money with mods on a turbo engine, the question was "is NOS and Scoobys bad news?" and the answer is no! As far as an increase in power that is there all the time, some people are happy with just a bit extra every now and again.

Correct

I posted that as an example of quite a large power increase on an otherwise standard engine that has caused no problems due to using a good quality nitrous kit.

The best place to go for advice on nitrous is www.noswizard.com/bboard as they are specialists at the end of the day!

Very biased advice IMO. Its not a public BB but a board setup and run by Nitrous retailers.

They are biased with good reason. Wizards are the best kits available in terms of reliability, design, performance, safety, etc.

Biased to the extent that all other kits will blow your car up as they are crap and that nitrous is the best thing since sliced bread

I disagree with that slightly as i think its fair to say that nitrous is probably used far more widely in the USA, WON is a british company no? some of the kits from the USA are very high quality, ive had both a WON kit and my current coldfusion and the quality of the WON kit was sub par at best in comparison...

Each to their own mate.

Having actually used a WON kit I am confident that they are just as good as they say they are.
