96 RA as quick as a type R ?
#1
In the throes of debating whether to change my 240bhp WRX for a type RA , do these RA's go as quickly as a type R coupe.
Will I notice a big difference over the 240bhp WRX.
The car is coming in as part ex so I havent had opportunity of a test drive yet?
Cheers

More or less...Same power output @ 276bhp, better (i.e Stronger) block...
Although don't think it has all the nice toys that the Type R has, and the shell isn't as stiff coz it's a 4 door...
Probably cheaper, tho'....
Cheers,
Ross.

The Type RA gear ratio's are very short, pulling approx 3,100 rpm @ 100kph (62mph) I changed my g/box because of poor motorway cruising... but ideal for drag racing

I just changed my 240 BHP WRX to a STiV Type R and I'm sure you will notice a huge difference....I did
The gearbox has a much closer ratio and with the STi quickshift its a dream to drive, I do loads of motorway miles too buts its not as bad as people said it would be, and I even get more mpg (30+).
The extra power is quite noticable and you have to be carefull at damp junctions/roundabouts etc as the tyres light up very easily
Also I think the RA is a lighter car than the R, its stripped out hence better power to weight....

I've got an RA and it goes like stink. My mate has a 'normal' Impreza and its nothing on mine.
LOVE that quick shift action man. Its got plenty of toys:
Centre diff
Water Spray
Roof Vents
It came with a street cage too so I guess its a little bit stiffer than most 4 doors.

There is one simple thing that can make an RA or Type R vastly quicker than the other....Decent driver training!
But seriously, either car is verrrrry rapid, and has far more RWD handling characteristics than any other Scoobs (22B excepted)...It can catch out the unwary, who are used to putting the power down early out of corners - Likely to be a cue for a huge oversteer moment!
Worth having somebody decent show you the ropes when you get the car...(1 to 1 track tuition or something)
Cheers,
Ross.
