Picking up my sti after a engine failure im like a dog with 2 co*cks .
its had a new turbo and short block what should i do in terms of running in?

I've just run my new engine in.....

I was told to keep it at under 3000 revs (3500 if you have to) for the first 1000 miles. After this, drop the oil out and replace with a good synthetic (I used Silkolene Pro R 15w50) and a genuine Subaru oil filter.

Once this is done don't take it out and drive it like you stole it, but gently increase the revs by 500 or so every 100 - 150 miles. I followed this procedure and I now have a very happy car.

I've seen people suggesting others take their newly rebuilt engines and thrash them for the first few miles to bed new piston rings in - but I certainly wouldn't try it. There are other moving parts which need to bed in over time.

I had to use a daewoo matiz while mine was broken - 800cc and 3 cylinders providing the most limp wristed accelaration I've ever experienced, was fun at times though.

Enjoy the excellent fuel economy you'll get while you're running her in - it may never be as good ever again!

Some one will be along in a minute, quoting a race bike engine building article that they dont really understand; and telling you that you neednt run it in (if you engine was built and then run on an engine dynometer then Id agree of course; otherwise not).
