Sweet spot for blob eye engine modification
A simple question, I think the prodrive pack is overpriced and cars that come with it command a premium of at least 1K.
The question is this, if one was to buy a WRX MY 2004/5 would a remap pay greater dividends for less cash than the prodrive option?
Is TEK the only option and more importantly does it involve removal and modification of the ECU or like may other cars just an OBD port remap?
Not for me I might add but my father who is considering a Forester or 5 door Impreza.

Aftermarket tuning will see greater bhp per pound spent than the prodrive packs. The only sacrifice for this method of tuning is that you will void your warrenty

Only the PPP adds anything to resale value.
Other aftermarket tuning may even reduce the residual value of the car as your potential market for such a car is relatively tiny.

ps I've got a Forester and if you are looking to increase the power significantly you also need to factor in a lot of other work in terms of upgrading. eg at least the wheels to 17"'s or 18"'s, tyres to some better fast road suited ones, but also preferably brakes/suspension as well.

He wants something quick/pracitical and haven driven my old Impreza he quite fancied one. Having driven the blob eye MY2004/5 it will need a remap or prodrive to impress even a little.
It's looking like a remap is the best choice but will this deliver without an exhaust change. Also is TEk the only option?

The WRX ppp consists of decat centre and change of backbox, plus a remap.
To get the equivalent or better you'd need to do at least the same and would get you to around 280'ish at which point you are pushing the limits of the turbo / fuel pump etc - still would work out cheaper than PPP though but as said without warranty and would impact future value..

So with just a remap it wouldn't be possible to reach 265bhp on a blobeye? Starting to think the awful looking new 2.5 ltr is going tob e the way to go. More lower down activity and higher spec including HiD's seems reasonable at the 16K cost from an importer.

A remap is going to cost the best part of £600 - if you're only looking to match the 265ps of the ppp then whats the point ? For an extra 1k on a used car you get the same power, plus warranty, plus better resale..
