How on earth is that 'selling out'.
You can get huge amounts of torque out of a derv unit with twice the reliability they have out of the overbored alfa boxer engine. Lets face it, its not the most economical or reliable powerplant in the world and I for one wouldnt get rid of my old diesel and just own a subaru in its current form. Id have bought a subaru years ago if they had a diesel.

Diesel good for torque i agree, I have had several and they are great for cruising, but the funs over before it even begins as it's out of puff by 4.5k rpm

It's selling out as they are doing it for european sales, america dont want oil burners and the Japanes will stick with petrol. Developing a diesel is cutting into the budget for developing more economical and reliable and enjoyable power from my petrol block

You cant have performance and economy just get use to it! Except the VW tourag V10 twin turbo chipped and a diesel aint gonna have the aggresive exhaust tone of my petrol which will be a travesty to all enthusiasts alone

You can have performance and reliability though (VTEc's for example). I must say that's my only dissapointment in subaru ownership, how bloody unreliable they are. Heads going here, bottom ends there, maf sensor faults taking pistons out. At least a diesel will give subaru a reliable engine

or not produce a diesel and throw the money on R&D they are waisting on its development on the further development of a tried and tested product that as you say could benefit significantly from it!!

I did come down on the train, but you'll never guess what I saw at the station! I had to stay and make sure I made full notes of chassis number on each carridge!

Question

Sorry to rake this thread up again, but does anyone have any more info on when the new diesel scoob will be ready?

Don't get me wrong I loved my Impreza turbo's but am now looking at new company cars for next year.

I have it on good authority that Subaru might even have a diesel for May 2007??

With a little un on the way my turbo days are over But I would get a subaru diesel if they are out in time.

Roblad.

Scooby Deisil,

There I can't even spell it!

To me, the whole point of having mr Scooby is, the sound, the fun, the different route etc. And the great build quality without being ripped off.

If this is true, they are hanging onto the shirt taills of the Krauts.

BMW ( we sell more 3 series than Vauxhall make Astras)

Audi ( we do the same but split it up between Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda, Seat)

Mercedes ( we do exactly the same & our cars are made in Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, & we still charge you silly money)

Mr Sooby is all things to all men ( & women), the boxer petrol engine makes this all possible, what happens if it becomes a clone of the above??

Sad days.

The dealer principle from one of the largest dealers in the country came to one of our meets a few months back and he said that the impreza was getting a diesel maybe as early as first part of 2007.

SRX no idea what the link was for as it said story was unavailable at present.

I found this though that talks about the engines. Looks like diesel will only be in the new hatch.
