Any experience of batfa.com Japenese Exporters
http://www.batfa.com/
Afternoon,
Has anybody used or know anybody who has used the above ?
I appreciate that they only get the car to the UK I would have to register / SVA it etc, but for a used car what taxes would I expect to pay on top of the price if any ?
I am not mad keen to send £15,000 to the otherside of the world if the company does not exist.
Thanks
Del.

I have never heard of them,
The only concern i would have is do they know there stuff
They have got this up as a 97wrx, and description is of a standard wrx
I thinks its pretty obvious it's not
I like it a lot and at standard wrx money what a bargain

Lol at the MY97 WRX, sounds like they cocked up when putting the details on the website.
Hmmm couldn’t see a quoted mileage.
Even if u bought it, with paperwork for an MY97, come SVA time you would be in the ****
Cant remember if you can register Type R’s anymore.
Well for a moment lets say you can. For a 99-00 Type R, 8.5k doesn’t sound too bad at face
value....but add it all up.
F (free) O (on) B (board) price (ie de-registered + loaded on ship) £8,500
shipping (their price) £ 388
sub total = £8,888
duty @10% 888
--------------------------
£9776
Vat @17.5% £1710.8
----------------------------
Sub total £11,486.8
( add about £250 IIRC for shipping agent in uk to sort out uk paperwork )
Then just prepare it for SVA, dunno £300 ish depending on needs, MOT, SVA itself.
Registration and road tax for uk.
Oh and fit alarm for insurance purposes, another £300+
I don’t think you will see much change from £13.5 k
What price are Type R’s these days ??
p.s theyre selling that MY93 on their website for a tad over £4k, that would work out
at about £6 k to get on the road here.
IMHO a waste of time, the prices at auction for an MY93 are around £1 - £1.2 k (i think)

Yes Del, unfortunately the whole lot.
If you can find a good place that will obtain a car direct from auction, for your requirements, that is about the best way to go.
( and i mean a GOOD place), unfortunately i have no recommends as i just dont know who is good.
There have been a few threads on the subject, have a search around.

I agreee completely foot tapper,
I bought my WRX a couple of years ago and by the time it was over here and legal, saved myself about 1k on an already imported standard model,
however, the car I bought was chosen intentionally as it had loads of extras, apexi defi's blitz etc.
I was also in the position of having a friend who was in the business at the time of importing JDM vehicles.
With all these additional bits, saved myself in the region of 4k. But took 3 months

Yea, I agree Mick.
1) You have a better spec as standard
2) Sometimes you can get a few goodies, that not apparent at first glance.
3) It CAN be a good bit cheaper, the way i worked it, the price of my old my '97 wrx import came to £8k ish (a while ago now) on the road in uk.
A car already in uk for £8k had about 75 k miles on it.
Mine had 40 k miles, jap spec exhaust, Tein susp, boost gauge.
So a better car overall for a given price.
The main drawback is, you have never inspected the car yourself, you have to have faith in someone else.

Micky Mouse no-marks. You will do what you like of course, but I would advise you to keep away from them. For a £15,000 car you should be talking to an importer that you have heard of and that people you know have dealt with.

Further to that; a customs clearing agent should cost £65 (not £250 ffs!) and they should do up to 4-5 cars for that single fee. If they charge more youre being had; and thats common!
