2002 WRX Tuning - £1157 gets you a decent spec
Guys,
Just thought I'd share my experiences with my 2002 WRX and the budget tuning I've been doing over the past year or so.
I'm currently running the following spec:
Prodrive open neck sports cat downpipe from Sti ppp £200 from ebay
Hayward & Scott up pipe £105 - Group buy from Scoobynet
Hayward & Scott mid pipe decat £115
Prodrive back box from ppp £90 from ebay
Pat Herborn remap £587.50
Gaskets & Studs to fit up pipe & downpipe £60
So for a grand total of £1157.50 what do you get, well (And I had a ppp before) much more instantaneous boost, power band from 2500 rpm and revving strongly to 6500 rpm with smooth power. Much less lumpy than ppp and it really does make it feel less laggy and the torque is excellent. I've got about the realistic max from the TD04 without getting into a downward spiral of replacing turbo/intercooler/fuelling in which case I might well have bought an STi. I reckon it's probably one of the most cost efficient packages out there, relatively easy to fit too if you have access to a ramp. Just need to get it on the rollers next to see what it's making. However I'd be amazed if it was less than 280 bhp and 270 lbft.

I got virtually the same spec (and a Pat re-map) but left the up-pipe as std. I was thinking around 260-270 myself (maybe the up is good for another 10 bhp? )
Won't be bothering with the rollers though, it's just a number (and different on every set). How it goes/feels is more important

Good work Blue Streak
I had my car mapped last week by Pat with the following upgrades.
Prodrive sports cat downpipe
Sti panel filter
Short pipe, non-res mid and back box all Vortex Afterburner system.
I got 260.2bhp with 264.4 lbft which I think is great when you think about how much it is for PPP.
I have heard mixed things about how much the up-pipe makes on bhp etc but again if it feels good what the hell.
I will be fitting a Sti7 scoop and Sti8 i/c in the next couple of weeks and thats with a TD04 so I won't yeald much more in terms of Bhp etc.
Oh Well

Pretty much the same spec as me. Prodrive sports cat down, decat up, decat centre, Prodrive back box, sti filter and a map. Made 280/280 at prosport. Bargain. Trouble is once you map you cant stop.

Holy thread revival batman, anyhoo, thought Id save the environment and reuse this one....
I have got a classic uppipe, cobra system, bellmouth downpipe 3" straight through to the 4" jap angled end box. Getting fitted today, what sort of difference should I be seeing/feeling, remap due in a month or two but should be ok for now as several folks have said that the td04 isnt prone to boost spikes etc like the larger sti units.
I am always a little sceptical on the "add this and you magically get 15bhp extra" as each individual unit gets the usual 10-15bhp increases, if that were true id be good for another 45bhp which just isnt realistic.
