It shouldn't be as high as that. Main dealer was about £750 before the price cut for parts.

dude spoke with them today when i phoned for some new pads and thats what they quoted me £800 all in service and cambelt, power engineering quoted me £700 all in, both i thing is expensive for a 8/9yr old car now and considering there have been many new models added that i would of thought it would be cheaper as i have been told of people only paying £450-£500 for the same work so i am trying to find someone local

Hi Steven not wishing to rub your nose in it but just had a cambelt change plus oil and gearbox oil swap for £160 and the bloke supplied the timing belt too! My car is MY2000 WRX type Ra V Limited. It is ridiculous to be expected to pay nigh on a grand for a service. It is a shame you are so far from me ( I am near Leeds) otherwise I would have arranged for this mechanic to do the service for you . Keep[ shopping around I am sure there will be another mechanic near you who doesn't start sharpening the knife when he hears the word Subaru.

Regards maz

maz see i happy story and it is good to hear, its just finding someone or somewhere that is localish to you is the major issue. this is my problem how can it cost just under a grand for this kind of work, we all know what a service takes and i appreciate it is not as easy as it was on my mk2 & 3 golf gti's but it cant be the hardest thing to do considering they do it day in day out, thanks for all your help thiugh guys this is why i love tis forum everyone is always willing to give advice

Agreed Steve, my mechanic had the job done in less than half a day plus i had the MAF sensor replaced at the same time as you say they do it day in day out so will not be rocket science for them. Good luck mate.

Labour costs are going to be high at the main dealer. I'm assuming you're on the 90k service, which by the book is cambelt, fuel filter, oil filter, plugs, engine oil, gearbox oil, diff oil, brake fluid and all the other checks. I reckon it's going to be £500 at the cheapest using OEM cambelt, plugs and decent oil.

You must have used a replica cambelt at that price.
