Default Darn, Mr Brown just opened some of our wallets...

Looks like the top Car tax is going to hit us STI owners as he has set it to 250g/km 01-05 & 06 STI's are greater (dont know if earlier cars are)

Yep, looks like another £20 down the drain. Its hardly likley to deter most people from running this sort of vehicle though as its a drop in the ocean compared to the total yearly running costs.
I was hoping for a tax Rover drivers over the age of 70 ( roughly 95% ) but maybe next year.

Yeah not terible but from 165 to 210 is 27%, we need to take the cars doing 2 x 1m trips every day off the road more than anything.

The way i read it on the teletext was that only "NEW CARS" would be subject to the new higher rate, could be mistaken though...

I could have sworn I heard Gordon (stealth tax) Brown say that the tax on wagons was going to double - the reason being that they have a greater volume than "normal" cars.

Or maybe I didn't .....

There's a scoob wagon near me with a Afterburner exhaust fitted and I agree, it does have more volume than normal cars

think he later mentioned a comedy levy to be raised against saloons with the big rear wings fitted, making other road users laugh too much i think he said, and as we know driving today is no laughing matter

wagons should get a cut in duty

Due to it being a far superior vehicle compared to the saloon
and the fact it can carry far more duty free into the country !

any cars post 2001, which was when the VED was made relative to emissions, so that should please 97.6% of all owners on here

Have a look here:-

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/...eport_2320.pdf
On page 209 or 210 or 211 there is a table A4a sets out the new levels of tax

Looks like its only going up on New cars

The log book for my import doesn't have a CO2 figure. (registered april 2002)

Should be interesting when the missus taxes it for me tomorrow or monday.

Anyone know how imports stand on this??

Imports are on the pre 2001 scale, so it will cost you £170, actualy may still be £165 as I'm not sure when it will actually change!
