Unhappy Engine Management Light

Just had my MY02 WRX 40K service done on Wednesday, done no millage at all, then this morning on my way to Aberdeen, the CEL light comes on .........The car still driving fine, nothing seems wrong, have spoken to Subaru, and have to take it in this afternoon when i get back to Dundee.

Anyone got any ideas or have encountered this before.

Thankx.

It's your emissions, you need a CEL fix as a result of the decat!

Best to get the codes read then for peace of mind, i was driving with the CEL on for 4 months as i knew it was the decat downpipe.

Liddy- Have you done the CEL fix, you should also get your codes checked to make sure it is only the decat downpipe and if it is a CEL fix is the cure

I'm going into Subaru this afternoon to get them read, so i'll let you know Liddy what i get from them.

The only other thing I thought about was, that at the end of Jan i was away for 4 days, and had left the car at the airport with the interior light on so i presume that the ecu had reset itself, cause it drove like a pile of sh**e for the first half hour. Do you rekon that would have caused the cel fix to reset?

Not everyone is boring pete

You could decat yours and switch your hearing aid off, then you can enjoy the power and faster spool up time without the noise and drone

When I got my full decat & then it too Andy F for the TEK3, he said that he would custom map it too my mods and within safe limits of the engine & being as reputable as he is I trust what he told me.

So as Alloy said "please enlighten us on how a decat can destroy your engine?"

Why would you need a re-map????

You lot need a brain transplant .......

IF it needs a re-map then by de-catting you have changed the characteristics of the engine and you will destroy it unless you get some new DATA inputed into the ECU.

If the De-Cat changes anything then you are looking to operating the vehicle outside of the design envelope that Subaru has set .......... by doing that you shorten its life.

If it makes no difference, then why do it??

Doesn't the turbo spool up too fast without the back pressure of a CAT?

My MY02 is doing the same with the silly little orange engine shaped light and my car stil has more cats than Tony Slattery's cattery
Then yesterday the silly little orange engine shaped lighty light went off - Oh and whether on or off it drove/drives fine (at least it seems fine to me (who also owns a Daewoo so whadda I know )...
I think I'll leave mine for a bit and if it pops back on again I'll take it to my Subaru dealer and remortgage my house for a diagnostic... HURRAH!

My MY01 WRX used to light its CEL occasionally after a 'spirited drive' when I first bought it. Stopped doing this after started using Optimax. Not sure if any coincidence.

Mine came on sitting in traffic, but went out again almost immdiately, Had it checked by the dealers who told me some dirt may have got on the censors, I have to admit my bottom was going like a moped

Were you low on fuel at the time? It's possible that with hard driving there was some fuel starvation so your mixture would have gone very lean. That has happened to me once on a track day. I refueled and cleared the code by switching the map (switchable ecutek map)

They're also prone to throwing occassional mis-fire detected codes. Mine sometimes does this when I first use it after a couple of weeks of sitting around - it's never resulting from a noticable mis-fire, it's never when booting it, it's never caused a problem. It doesn't come back when the car is used more often.

As noted above, you need to get the codes read to determine exactly what the problem is - could well be something benign, but could be something more serious.
