Any problems (theft, etc) selling Scoob's on E-BAY ??
Hi All,
Just stuck my X reg Bugeye 5 door on Ebay (does that sound like a plug?) and was wondering if anyone who has done the same has had any problems with theft or the likes ??
Don't know if I am just being paranoid because of the type of car it is, but I keep thinking if someone asks to view it they may come back later and try to nick it, or might just give me a kicking there and then and take it. Do the scallys look on ebay and say "yes, that one looks like a good 'un, we'll have that one off him".
I don't particularly want people round my house to view, but don't know how people would take it if I asked to meet at a mutually conveniant (safe) place.
I've looked at the other Impreza listings on Ebay and sellers want to see driving licences and insurance details before a test drive. I've put the same in my add, but don't know how people will take it.
Look forward to your replies,
Graeme.

Have heard of a number of scams using bankers drafts. I think the main comment is if it looks to good there is a good chance that is too good to be true. Just be very careful if not sure put it on here to see what people say. there are a few threads on here I think already. Hope it all goes smoothly steve

I think the main problem will be your inability to sell it on ebay (not for the price you want anyway)
I put my Classic on and was bombarded by offers and part ex's. The odd timewaster rang and in the end I removed it and put it in the trader (where it sold on the second week)
I think everyone now expects people to be cautious irrespective of the car. If they are genuine they should have no issues meeting in a public place or providing the relevant documents to be able to test drive. Afterall your not only trying to safegurad your property (and possibly their future purchase) but stay on the right side of the law as well.

I would NEVER buy a car from a 'Car-Park' without going to the sellers house (the address on the registration document) AND asking to use the loo!!!
Why the loo?? Well, quite simply, they may not actually live there!!
It's a risk whether selling or buying ........... over the past 25 years, all my cars always end up getting sold to people who know me (I keep them so well and treat them very well) so don't have any issues.

Some good advice there.
If the shoe was on the other foot, I would want to go to the seller's home address, not a carpark to do the deal, as the V5 document could have been stolen with the car.
Will see how ebay goes then will try Autotrader. Last resort - Part ex, where you get no money at all !
Cheers,
Graeme.

Good point Pete.
Just to clarify my previous post I'd have no problems conducting the initial meeting in a public place. Dont get me wrong there's no way I'd be conclude a deal anywhere other than my house or the sellers house.

I agree with the above, most people wouldnt dream of buying a car if they cant actually go to the address on the reg docs just to be sure its theirs!
There are some exceptions; I went to see a car and the guy met me in a carpark, now I was bloody dubious *BUT*, I asked the guy why he met me there? turned out he had shown someone a car recently and they broke into his yard the next day and stole it, he decided he liked the look of me (that sounds a bit gay??!?) and took me back to the yard.. I instantly understood the problem, he had loads of really nice Jap imports, FTO's, GTO's, Imprezas, MR2's.. A gold mine for a theif!

The main issue is that if you have modified it in a bad way or put a message in saying that your servicing specialist has just serviced it and told you it was the quickest road going Impreza they had ever experienced.
Then expect pages of abuse from Snet
Other than that PSL gives great advice. No serious buyer will baulk at being checked up on - irrespective of how embarrassed you may feel about it.

I sold my01 wrx on ebay,no problem's what so ever, the winning bidder sent me a contact number within five minutes of auction end, came down from edinborough the following morning with eight grand in scottish money, luckily for me my neighbour is scottish,so he checked the money over, filled out the log book, gave receipt"bought as seen etc",of he went happy as larry
I suppose i was one of the lucky few,but truth be told, there are reliable bidder's out there, just be very careful

I sold a Cossie privately sime10 years ago. I was paranoid and got phonecalls at 10pm asking to come and see it. I arranged to meet at busy petrol station, took a buddy with me and explained the car would be only test driven with proof of insurance and driving licence.Genuine buyers will be more than happy with this approach imo as it shows you look after your car. Once the bloke said he was happy with the car I told him I'd phone him the following day with my address. There we sorted out the paperwork....Can't remember if he used the toilet or not.

I was thinking about asking to take a photo of people wanting to view, but thought that was just a bit too paranoid !!
Hopefully, if they've got a photo licence that will cover that one.
Just hope I find the right person with the right money (lucky you, Mark). Then it's STI here I come. Or convince the wife first, then STI here I come !!
Cheers,
Graeme.
