Default LONG JOURNEYS

I'm contemplating taking my P1 down to the south of France, would this not be a wise idea for the engine??

Well you could leave the engine at home, but it might be a right pain in the **** pushing the car all that way?

take the nice empty backroads so you dont sit for hours at high-revs on motorway.

mate takes his p1 to the 'ring and has had no problems

750 miles at a constant 120mph might not be advisable, but there's no other reason it would be bad for it if you drive 'normally' ......

Especially with the higher octane SUL in Europe. It's probably better than running it on Optimax!!

Where's the bit in the manual that says 'The Subaru Impreza should not be driven on a motorway for more than 30 minutes at a time, or your engine will blow up'?
Come on people get real, its a car, being driven is what its supposed to do!

took a classic my99 to France a few years ago...it was much more pleasant driving on the French roads than the grid locked British ones...and the car was superb....I also averaged just over 35 mpg...and that was fully laden...but no roof box...and the car was a wagon...Anyway, if the car is in decent nick it should be fine...It would be a good idea to do an oil change a week or so before going ( just before so that you know alls well ) as you will cover a fair few miles...and use a good fully synth like motul 300v 10-40 which will handle any slightly higher temps caused by long periods at speed/hills climbs/heat soak....Just go enjoy!...Oh yea, last thought....make sure brake pads in good nick if you are taking on the mountains!.....

I took my STi all round Europe.

Just be sensible about it, dont sit at 140mph till your petrol runs out, then bounce it off the limiter in 6th.

But sitting at 90 - 100 was fine

LOL You know, I seriously worry about the people on here who own scoobs

Drive it "normally"* and it will last forever

*"normal" being within ALL speed limits currently enforced.

I do a run to Brighton quite often from GTR Manchester sustaining high speeds (below 70 officer) and it copes fine.

Make sure its serviced and use the best fuel possible especially if Shell V power is available abroad and you'll be ok - oh wait hold on did you say P1 errrr then again

Only messing mate, keep it below 120 and you'll be fine

Why on earth would you have a problem? If you drive faster you will be stopping every hour to fill up so the car will get a break........If you would be happy to drive down there at that speed in a fiesta / focus / corsa / anything of the same age then the scoob will be fine too ....

I have to agree there, why on earth would you ask such a stupid question?
Your engine is no different to any other when you drive it ffs.
Honestly.
Tell you what, no, dont drive it, as going all that way will blow your engine up and all your paint will fall off, and the passenger seat will melt.
Jees.

Hopefully I'll be off the the ring this year, RA gearing means it'll be sitting at 4500 doing 85mph for hours. I don't expect any problems (now touches a very large chunk of wood).

TBH, if anything'll test your car, it'll be the mountains, not the trip to them

It could ONLY happen on ScoobyNet ............

Someone posting to ask if they should drive their car a few 100 miles

Its a classic case of the stupid being led by the ****

It's a frigging CAR, designed to be a CAR, and made to go on some journeys - long and short!!

I think you have a car there mate!
I've heard of Subaru & their cars are supposed to be ok,fairly reliable.
I think they have even rallied a few.

Take it easy & you should be ok.

P1vic - Don't worry mate

I did it in an RB5 2 years ago. Me, the Mrs and 2 kids, 1000 miles there and the same back. No hassles at all. Only gave it 1 good blast, fully laden 140+ and Mrs B told me to Calm down Easily 90-100mph steady

The biggest problem you'll have is Bl**dy acheing(sp) legs if your owt like me.

And mind out for those HUGE curbs at the pay tolls they can make a right mess of your alloys.
