SCOOBY PROBLEM
I brought a 1996 impreza turbo about 6 months ago which had covered about 99k i payed £6.995 and i started to have problems with it.
It was running harsh but i had got some warranty when i brought it so went back to the garage and after some time they changed the engine for a 1998 turbo engine which had covered about 70k also i had to change flywheel radiator clutch fix the quick shift change break pads buy a air flow meter as the new engine kept cutting out.this cost me just over £800 and i have now been told that the car is only worth about £3000 tops .with all the problems the garage which i have brought it off has offered me £6000 to sell it back to them.what should i do as i want keep a scooby but know that this one is hardly worth anything but if i sell it £6000 is not alot to get another scoob
WHAT SHOULD I DO.COMMENTS WOULD BE HELPFUL

[QUOTE=RON]Yup, let them have it back..... with 6k you'll get at least a 98, maybe even a 99.....
Yeah but in wot condition?
sounds like youve ironed out all your problems, however you wont get 6k privately. tricky one!

Personally if you are happy with the car as it is now - all running good.. and are not looking to sell for a couple of years or so then i'd say keep it.. However if you are not 100% confident about the car and you are considering ti sell in the very near future i'd say SELL IT BACK TO THE GARAGE ASAP... 6k for a 96 Impreza..!!! I wouldn't be hanging around if i was you...

For 6K, you could have had my MY99
!!!!!
Sell it back to the garage - but take your time finding a replacement. Do your homework - ask on here (we're only too happy to give an opinion on Scoobs - whether you want it or not!!
)
For 6K, you'll get a facelift classic with half-decent miles too.....
Scoobs are expensive enough as it is, without spending £7K on an MY96
Best of luck

Hate to say it, but the garage saw you coming - overcharged by a load in the first place and sold you a car with a knackered engine ( must have been pretty bad for them to consider the cheapest fix to be to stick a new lump in rather than repair the old one ! ).
Ideally, you should have rejected the car when they offered the new engine and got all your money back, and not spent any extra on the pads etc...
But... if they're offering you £6K, take it and cut your losses. The next couple of months while its still cold is a good time to be buying, and for £6 - £7K you can get a nice facelift classic with average or less miles - dont go to garages though, look for a private sale with a good service history, owner who could afford to maintain the car etc... £6K should get you a standard or lightly modded S plate or later.
As others mention, keep an eye on the for sale section here as good members cars come up.
Other bonus is good condition classics are starting to hold their prices well now, so you arent going to be taking a hit on depreciation - keep the car for a year and dont do loads of miles, and you will probably be able to sell it for what you paid ( I recently got offered £1000 more than I paid for my S reg, bought in early summer 2005 - and I didnt buy it that cheap - I wasnt interested in selling anyway, but if I had been then it would have been a good deal ).

Thanks for the comments.the only problem i have is that if i sell it back my girlfriend will need a car asap for work and i dont want to rush out and buy more problems does anyone know of any cars for 6kish going around for sale at the moment???? cheers
sell it back to the garage, simple as...
Then go and buy your girlfriend another car for say £1000 that still leaves you £5000 which is still £2000 more than what the should be worth.
Put this towards another scooby..

Just get an old banger for a couple of hundred quid - anything will do if she just needs it to go to work, then take your time finding the right Impreza and sell or scrap the banger when you get it.
such an easy decision. get rid quick, and as for a car for the missus around 6k have you not looked in the local press/ garages, theres loads of new cars for that money. where do you live mars
I wish everything in life was this easy. Take the 6k before they change their mind and count yourself lucky. Spend a monkey on a banger for the other half and keep the rest for a tidy classic. Almost 7 grand on a classic with 99k was way too much. I paid 4250 last year for a classic with 105k.
Take the 6k and get out of there and cut your losses, listen to people on here and take their advice. If I were you get a cheap to run old car and then save a little and buy a younger lower mileage car but dont rush.
