You probanly won't believe this............... noise complaint.
Here's the run down;
1) I own an STI type RA with full decat and Blitz nur spec r (have not driven her for a year as I'm recovering from an acdcident)
2) My brother owns a Legacy turbo. (Big BB but not de-catted)
3) My mate owns a MY00 with a HKS decat centre with a Blitz Nur spec S bb
4) I also own a 2 seater Smart Car with an after market st.st. exhaust
Coming home at 11.30pm after the cinema, I had just parked the smart car on my drive when as car 2) and 3) park u behind me. I usually give the car 2-3 mjinutes to cool down as do my brother and friend
Was just switching the smart car when my neighbour shows up on my drive (he passes the legacy nd impreza) and complains to me that it was late at night and that my car was too loud, yes, the smart car............GO FIGURE!!

You idled the Smart car 2-3 mins to cool down? Why?
When I had a P1 it had a full decat with Nur spec R, I used to either leave for work or get back at really anti social times, ie 5 am. Whenever I was getting back at a late hour I'd drive off boost for the last bit, or since my road is on a slope, glide the last few hundred metres in neutral. Upon parking I'd switch off straight away. There is no need whatsoever to have an Impreza idling for 2-3 mins IMHO.
I thought it quite unfair to let the thing idle away with it being very noisy, especially at 5 am. Never had one complaint in 5 years, and the engine still hasn't blown up without a remap too
You'll have to watch out that this neighbour doesn't start canvassing others to put you up for an ASBO etc.

2-3 mins was an exageration. I usually back off a couple of miles before my destination, and anyway, a smart car idling.........how noisy/loud can that be............... What's an ASBO?

Hi,I always drive slowly home for about the last 5 mins.
Surely this will cool down the motor as there is more airflow through the rads.Parking the car on idle is the fastest way to warm it up.
Am I wrong?

I had one Neighbour give me a nasty look while parking my car one evening- just had it idleing while I put the steering lock on, I'm Not long living in the house and it's facing a busy road with parking in the drive but I park between the footpath and the road not to create a noise when I leave in the mornings, being a friendly person I don't want to fall out with my new neighbours, But after that I decided to test the water so I brought the Truck (Volvo eight wheel Tipper) home the following night to see her reaction.
Now she doesn't mind the Subaru
Cheers

Turbos get very hot in use (upwards of 800 degreesC) so if you stop and switch of the engine after a spirted drive the oil remaining inside the turbo charger will literally cook and turn to a tar like substance. Obviously not good. So sitting at idle for a while with oil and water still flowing through the turbo allows it to cool off a bit and stops the oil getting cooked.

MY neighbour once complained abaout the noise of my car, So I complained about the noise of her children running between there two houses at 11 at night shouting and screaming. Several of the neightbours had a go at them for the same as well.
