Default Question on BHP???

Just wonderd, when people are quoting the BHP of there Scoobies, is that at the wheels, or at the Flywheel? e.g. standerd Newage Impreza 220ish BHP, Newage Impreza with PPP 270ish BHP, where are these measurements taken from?

its done simply so comparision between cars is easier. If we all started talking about the wheels, then its difficult and complicated to compare car for car i.e. rwd to 4wd

Surely WHP is a better comparison then ! since it's what you actually end up with, regardless of 2, or 4wd !

It also happens to be a far more reliable measure, than a software derived flywheel figure.

Thats what I thought. A 250 WHP AWD will be similar to a 250 WHP RWD, Where as a 350BHP AWD will be down on a 350BHP RWD as the AWD drivetrain losses are over 20%

WHP is a much better comparison and it's all they use in the States and Oz. Personally I think all cars should be quoted in WHP/Ton to give a true indication of capabilities.

...that will never happen. Quoting BHP, or even the slightly higher PS, is a marketing tool.

Comparing wheel bhp on rolling roads is pretty usefull, more so on the same day. I've used flywheel bhp (with a standard rate of transmission loss for different drivetypes in the formulas) on my site becuase you'll be surprised how many people don't know their own, or manufacturers wheel bhp.

With car manufacturers, you're right, but there's no reason why we have to follow suit, is there ?

Just depends if people want to live in the real world, or feel better about themselves
