Front is definitely bigger than 277, can't remember if they're 294 or 297 though. Numerous replacement disks will do the job, you'll see more debate in old posts in the "wheels tyres and brakes" forum, strangely enough.
Personally, I have Tarox uprated drilled / grooved, courtesy of powerstation, which do the job just fine when combined with the appropriate Tarox pads, braided hoses and DOT 5.1.

Steve,
Yep, I'll second the 294mm / 4 pot calipers that awd said.
I recently replaced my '03 WRX front brakes with OE discs (£120-130 the pair) from my local dealer and a set of Pagid RS4-2-1's from alyn (stockcar on here) @ AS Performance (about £130 delivered next day). I drive quite enthusiastically and am very happy with this set up for road (and pressing on) use considering all factors such as cost, cold bite and performance.
