Default how to fit a new battery

i need a new battery on my 02 wrx. im too tight to get subaru to fit one so hopefully gonna do it myself. is is wise to fit it myself or is it a complicated issue. no im not a comlete numpty, but have read on s/n that electrical problems can occur due to the disconection. i am refering to stuff like tracker, anti hijack device etc. and finally will the very reputable halfords be able to supply one.thanks bob

£50 from Halfords I understand.

I assume that you would need to inform Trakker that you were about to disconnect?

It's not a difficult job ... I, too, was concerned about the alarm going off - but, I was assured that if you are quick enough at the swap then there will be no issues.

Find the code for your radio and put to one side.
Remove the negative lead off the battery first.
now +ve lead.
remove the clamp
remove old battery
fit new battery
fit clamp
put vaseline on battery terminals
fit +ve lead
Fit -ve lead
job done

The tracker and alarm will be fine.

On my MY00 Classic it was simple but I don't have a tracker.

Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery first. Take it off in one swift movement and the alarm won't go off. Fitting is the reverse of removal, fit positive terminal first then negative.

It is important to do it this way, if you fit the neagtive first then touch the body work with the spanner whilst doing up the positive you short out the battery. One very hot spanner and in the worst case the battery may explode showering you in acid

Just do it m8.
The alarm will not go off, and the tracker will be fine.
I've taken my battery off for hours (03sti) while I was fitting my stereo. Easy job m8.
Remember -ve off first and back on last.

Yes but heavy duty one is only £55 and they fit that free. Still put it on myself though.

I got the Halfords heavy duty one myself for 02WRX (obviously the batterys aren't designed to last longer than this ). It was as good value as anywhere else I could find - which isn't very usual for halfords!

Fitted it myself, took maybe 5 minutes with one spanner - Subaru were even considerate enough to make the battery clamp and terminal bolts the same size. No problem with my tracker or alarm, my stereo just needed the keycard before it would work - but that's obviously dependent on what kind of stereo you have.

Top tip - Try not to drop the spanner so it lands across both battery terminals. I've never tried it, but I don't imagine you'd like the results too much!
