Scooby Down-Grade to???
#1
I've now owned my scoob for just over 5 months & I'm loving every moment of driving it!
Pound's per smile!!! Well worth it!
I'm 26 years old & still living with parents. I intend to keep the scoob for a least 2 years.
Currently I fork out between £40 - £50 a week on Rocket Fuel which mainly consist's of a 34 mile round trip to work 5 days a week.
Obviously I'll be looking to buy a house in a few years time, what should I condsider??
I just love those 'German' cars!
Has anyone looked at the mid-range performance of the Audi A3 TDi 110BHP model??
It's amazing!!
Comments Please?
Cheers

6 weeks ago I was lucky enough to have a MY00 and a BMW 328, the latter as a company car.
Then I made a two-part plan, and the first part is now complete. The second part is to chop the 328 for a Golf TDi (the 130bhp one I hope) in April to reduce the company car tax, in order to offset the cost of the first part. I have recently driven a Golf TDi for 750 miles in one day (French Alps to UK west country) and it was amazing - so much low-end torque, 53mpg overall and 2200rpm = 80mph in sixth (French Autoroute, of course )
...oh, and part one - I now have a P1 (..and no money)

If its not too small, then what about the Clio 172 ? 15 1/2 grand new in the UK (can get them for just over 13 as an EU import).
I have a new shape one and it goes like a rocket (esp. with a Ramair induction kit !!!) and on motorway runs i can get over 39 to the gallon (on Optimax).
Excellent car to drive, not as much grip obviously as the MY01 i had but i would say its more fun to drive.

I think that my next car will more than likely by a German car as I was well impressed with my Dad's old company car, which was an Audi A4 1.8T Sport.
Although I do like those 'Hot Hatches' (Clio 172) & 'Small Coupe's (Puma 1.7).
It all depends on what I can get for my MY97 UK Turbo in March 2003??
The car is standard at the mo. although I do itend to put some 17" OZ Supper L's on next spring.
If I could fetch between 8000-9000 grand I would be quite happy. The car will more than likely have about 65,000 miles on the clock with FSSH.

Ricky,
What about a Skoda Octavia RS?
146mph 35mpg. Top Gear mag tested it against the MG ZS170 and the VW Bora 1.8Turbo sport and it slaughted them both. Also higher quality than the VW, half leather trim looked well. TG quoted the insurance as group 13 which seems low.

Totally agree .... the Golf GT TDi with 150 bhp is a cracking motor, went in one whilst in Germany a while ago and the mid-range is cracking ( and its only 0.1 of a second slower to 60 than the Turbo petrol 1.8T ). MPG speaks for itself really
Has anyone driven the new Civic Type R??? Seems to be getting good write-ups and 200bhp is not bad for £16k

I didn't like the Puma coming from a VW Scirocco 1.6 - even the 1.7 Puma's not really fast enough.
How about a MINI Cooper S - spec's just out, £14,600, 163bhp, 0-62 in 7.4s etc etc.
Alternative - Fiat Coupe 20VT, Corrado VR6, Audi A4 2.8 quattro (the saloon version of those Audis depreciates quite fast compared to the Avant, so a 2yr old can be had for ~£15k at an Audi garage).

What about the Seat Leon 1.8T Cupra. A friend of mine has just got one with full leather, CD changer, climate pack etc for about 14.5k. I must admit I was impressed with it.

Thanks for your suggestions guy's, but I forgot to mention that I will also have a budget of around 10K as I won't want to spend anymore money on cars until I saved up for a house & purchase all of the boring mod-cons.
I have it tooo easy at the mo. living with my parents.
