Default exhaust questions

If i decat the exhaust,say downpipe only, what do you do with the lambda sensor wire and will it pass the mot?

If i decat the center box on its own,again is there a lambda wire there and will it pass the mot?

oh and will my MY02 WRX need re-mapping ?

I need to know as around my way,the police are starting to do road side checks for emissions

If you start taking cats out you should really get it remapped, although you will find people on here who have been running their car without cats or a remap and haven't had any problems.

Yes you need to keep one of the cats in for mot,Which one you remove is a matter of choice but you'd probably get the best benifits from removing the downpipe cat.A remap would get the most out of the de-cat.I'd be inclined to de-cat the up and downpipe and leave the centre cat in and then re-map.The lamda wires will be pluged onto the lamda that is screwed in to the de-cat pipe.If its not gonna be re-mapped then a cel-fix is required to fool the ecu and keep the engine managment light out.

I decatted the center section without any problems, It passes the MOT with not a problem, everybody has their own choice, but I would'nt de-cat the down pipe.

right ive just purchased a center decat,so if any what gains are there to be had,noise,bhp etc ?

Gains? If the Police are active round your way on Emissions then I would suggest you are about to LOSE!!

I did not notice any difference when I got my centre section de-catted. De-cating the front pipe was a different story though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not entirely true now, is it....?

Removing the centre cat will not affect your MOT, I removed my centre cat 1 week before my MOT and it passed its emissions test without any problems.

What will you gain? I removed my centre cat, fitted a Magnex backbox and a GREEN panel filter and gained 7bhp. Not much but the car seemed to have a bit more grunt at higher revs and seemed a bit more slow to pickup at low revs.

I then had it remapped.

The up-pipe and downpipe cats on new age wrx's are the restrictive ones, take these out and leave the center one in place.

if you leave one cat on then surly it will pass the tests from the LAPD

Well theres 3 on the MY02 WRX i think if you remove the up-pipe and down pipe cats,there might be the problem with mot and the roadside tests.

But as stated if you remove the center cat and leave the other 2 on youre still tester friendly
