Default STI Fuel Consumption Query

Hi Guys n Girls
I am after some advise/expertise’s on fuel consumption for the new age STI’s.

My pride & joy has not really been driven for past 4/5 months due to un for seen circumstances , However, its now back on the road & being driven on a daily bases

My query is….
On Sat 28.01.06 I put shell optimax 46.75 litres in (filled to the top) which = 44 pounds worth of fuel

I have driven to & from work & done approx 55 miles – not driving silly – but not driving like Miss Daisy & tonight have filled my tank back up & was absolutely astonished that it took 19.70 litres $18.50!

I am not sure what MPG this equates too but this is high?
Is this normal??

Any advice would be welcome

Hi there, i think if i've done my calculations right your running 12-13 MPG, so you either have a heavy right foot, somethings not right or your making short runs when engines cold.

We get 19-20 day in day out, 24 on a gentle run and 16 on the Autobahn in Germany during the Summer. Plenty of full bore acceleration at high speeds, few drops below 100mph, max of 156mph (GPS not Speedo) and an average speed of 124 mph. 13 gallons gone in 100 minutes...

Cheers

When I had a 45 Litre tank I got 38mpg!!

Now, it's probably a 60 Litre tank and my 38 drops to 28mpg

Has someone changed the size of your tank, like they did mine??

My 03 sti ppp does between 12-19 mpg depending on how you drive it, thats country roads, no dual or motroway driving, so guessing upto 25mpg on a long motorway run?

I find I get about 10mpg from my MY03 STi (Totally standard) when I drive it and perhaps 20mpg give or take on a trip. However, when doing short runs into town, specially in cold weather, I have noticed that the fuel consumption is awful and probably in the same order as what you are seeing. I don't believe it is a fault.

So, from my experience it looks fairly normal for cold start and around town type driving but maybe not entirely normal if your work run was 55 miles in one trip.

Just got 400 miles off £100 (didn't bother reseting trip between fill ups)

Think that must be pretty c**p ?

95% town driving, short trip 5miles to work, same back again

Default MPG

I drive my totally standard uk 97 turbo about 50miles every day back and for from work. Most of my driving is steady although I usually have a few blasts through the box off a couple of the roundabouts on the way and on the way home. Driving like this I get 25mpg week in week out, around 270-280 miles and it takes around 50 litres to fill (tesco 97ron). Did none of the classics come with a low petrol warning?

I find that i get around 230-240 miles from full, to light on, about £46 of optimax @ 92.9. The cars standard and with wifey driving mainly and myself rarely going hitting above 4,500 RPM on my twice weekly commute of 50 mile round trip.

Mind you, the wife is a Finn, we all know what these Finns get upto in a rally car.

I know that's thirsty, but what i expected, so now i'm trying to enjoy the car more and every now and again hearing this beep noise to change gear

? Pete, are you saying you actually only get ~28 MPG, sounds more reasonable for normal driving in an Impreza.

Have a 2003 STI with PPP and usually get 240-270 miles on a tank. However fuel consumption noticebly worsens in cold weather.

10 mpg on super unleaded works out at about 42p a mile in fuel!

Or £42 for every 100 miles!

Or £4,200 a year if you do an average 10,000 miles a year!

Ouch, I couldn't justify that!

And if you pay 22% tax you need to earn £5400 to pay for that.

Divide your litres by 4 then times.........

1 litre = 0.219 Gallon (UK), (US Gallon is 0.264) multiply litres by 0.219 then divide mileage by figure. i.e. 51 litres = 11.218 gallon, divide 180 miles by 11.218 = 16.04!!!!!!! S**T, that means I'm only getting 16 mile to the Gallon. I think I will have to get the bike dusted down and oiled up.

Assuming tank filled to brim every time, miles recorded between fill-ups:

(Miles covered) divided by (litres of fuel), times by 4.546 (number of litres in a UK gallon)

Easy.
