Default Scott Lowe Mudflaps

Well me Scott Lowe Flaps arrived in the post today.

anyone got any advice on fitting them, before i have a go.

looks like the instructions you get are pretty detailed, just looking for a few "i wish i knew this before i did mine" type comments.

or are they easy?

how long is it likely to take?

Use some double sided tape on the front plastic nut thingy, remember to poke a hole through the tape though. This helps keep it in place and stops it falling through the arch liner.

Make sure you have some waxoyl and a charged up drill as well.

OUCH! That mudflap misshap looks nasty

Best advice I can give to getting anything done on your car "LET A PROFFESIONAL DO IT" Got Prosport to fit mine when it was in for its 30k service, and never had a problem with them since

How much do Prosport add on to fit them?

Anybody any tips to clean the flaps up. Mine have gone a bit of a dirty blue colour and i'm putting them on a brand spanker so want them looking fresh.

instructions say you can fit them at 2 ride heights, and to watchout when revesing if you use the top holes (ie closer to ground)

did you opt for the top holes? - please tell me that didn't happen with them fitted on the higher ground clearance setting!

or is your car lowered?

harsh damage mate - did insurance pay?

Pretty Basic to fit, the only git is drilling the pilot holes for the 2 self tappers you have to put in each wing.
Look the mutts once on though.

I fitted mine myself, onto a Blob-eye. Bit of mucking about having to take each wheel off, and i managed to put the back ones on squint as i didnt drill the holes high enough up. Sorted now though.

Make sure you use loads of copper slip on the screws and clips cos the whole lot will rust together in no time.
I had to cut my Scott Lowe flaps off because they where rusted solid!

Yup certainly did
But if you do it like I have now then no problem. They do look the biz when done, proper rally slag style

Advice #1
Take your time, follow the instructions closely and dont rush it.
Have loads of waxol handy, charged drill etc like all the other guys said.
Wheels off, give the archs a good clean whilst you are under there.
Fronts i followed scotts instructions to the letter and no problem.Used the lower of the holes as i wanted the flaps to do their job but not scrape on every speedbump, slight rise in the road i met.

Advice #2
I ripped off both rear ones, within a month of each other by reversing over 2 high a kerb. flaps catch between the wheel and kerb, big grinding noise and ouch!! Result, it ripped the flaps off, bent the brackets back and pulled the bumper down.
So after fixing the bumper back up and reshaping the brackets, i decided not to fix the new flaps in the same way.
normally there are 3 points of contact between flap and car. Top hole in wheel arch, bottom hole in arch right down where the arch meets the skirt and then the inner hole that fixes the angled bracket to the arch.
It is the bottom hole in the arch which i decided not to fix this time, as that was the one that did the most damage. so the flaps are only secured in the other 2 places and my reckoning is that if they get caught again, then hopefully they will rip off and not take my bumper with them like last time...

Scott supplies all the fixings you need, but if short halfords do similar nuts and bolts etc.
also scott is always happy to advise on the correct firtment.
Get them on and lets see the pics

any chance someone could stick up a photo of the innner wheel arches front + back?

i'm a bit confused about how to fit the little metal bracket which you need the drill for.

i've justed fitted the back ones so far but just used the two predrilled attachments + the middle bolt.

Theres a similar type on e bay for £50ish. Only down side with the cheaper version was the graphics dont seem to last around power washers. There stick ons but you can get anything put on or colour.

The materials are the same and the fitting is exactly the same between the Lowes and the cheapos.

Seen Prodrive and there a far better fit but who wants to pay £250 unless you get them flung in as part of a purchase deal.

The Scott Lowe ones used the originals as templates so the fit is spot on, the eBay ones are fecking massive, and not a great fit, but if you only want to spend £50, then thats up to you, but your paying for quality and thats what you get with the SL ones.

The prodrive ones are £226 for all four and are a different fit and design to the scott lowe flaps, and do not require any holes to be drilled.
They are not the same as the scott lowe flaps, because I have fitted both recently.
I went out and bought the prodrive flaps for my own car, make of that what you will.

They do look pretty cool.
How about Nylon bolts, through with nylon washers to rear. Can this be done? Thought it would shear nicely rather than rip large pieces of bodywork away? Anyone tried this?
