It's an interesting read. Obviously all the story isn't there but why are the dead man's family acting as if he was completely innocent? He must have been racing too and at some speed himself to be killed after losing control and hitting a telegraph pole!

the article didn't actually explain just how he caused the death of the other driver did it..? but as he admitted it what the hell.

the pair were seen racing each other like "idiots",

surely this must must that the other part was a willing participant.. can;t quite understand it myself.

In a statement, Mr Harding's family said they were pleased with the sentence.

It read: "Knowing Ken we were never in doubt that the statement given by Mr Harris was nothing but lies.
but your precious ken was "racing". it takes two to tango.

the guy did deserved to get banged up.

Confused too.......takes two to race - unless he pushed him or caused him to crash by overtaking......?

I've seen more dangerous driving since having the scoob - some drivers will do anything to pull away from me, and you do not realise how easily it is to drive quickly in the twistie stuff - I just back away from the idiots now....

Not sure. The ECU probably can, though the information is useless unless it also records the time at which that speed was reached.

What a bloody shame for all those involved, the kids, wives/partners, etc.

driving at those speeds and, even worse in a 60 with his kids in the car should get him that sort of ban!

What an example this man was telling his kids to keep quite about the accident!

"His reckless driving caused the death of a kind and gentle man who had an impeccable driving record."

Sounds like you REALLY didn't know your husband as well as you thought you did...His foot on the throttle, his hands on the wheel...his ego at the helm...

Regardless, bloody irresponsible to race with kids in your car, bloody irresponsible not to stop and obviouslythey did it in an area with witnesses...

opens an interesting dilemma for cops who when chasing speeders cause them to lose it and crash into walls and hedgrows everyday...Police, camera, action - hundreds of hours - funny how they are 'not held responsible'...you can't have it both ways...

RAC Trackstar can provide this detail quite easily.
I've rang a few times to have a system check and was shocked on one occasion to the level of detail that the person said (not that I was speeding or anything).

Usually they just tell me the cars current location, however the last time I rang the guy told me the exact route I had taken from home to work and I pretty sure he told me speeds at certain points on the route.

Anyway, at 5 years he got off light in my opinion.
There are no excuses for this type of behaviour.

Really? I understand we don't know the full story but, how many people on here have had a blast away from the lights with someone? If the other bloke loses control during this blast and unfortunately dies in the crash does that mean the you should automatically be jailed?

If you cut him up and CAUSED him to crash then fair enough, but if he just loses it?

So you shouldn't be racing on public roads in the first place, fair enough, but if you didn't take the bait and he shot off anyway, who is to say he wouldn't have still crashed and died? Is that still your fault because if you weren't there he wouldn't have tried to race you?

Shouldn't be racing with kids in the car though!

Totally agree, it takes 2. Also i heard that the air bag sensor can give an indicated speed from a crashed car.

It all just doesn't ring true to me... There MUST be more to the story!

How can you cause someone elses death if they are racing you? If 2 guys are racing - they are BOTH racing, if one has an accident it is his own fault if he makes a mistake - People need to take some responsibility for their own actions!

As for all the 'how dreadful, he was doing that with kids in the car' stuff People do all sorts of stuff with their kids that if you did a 'risk assessment you would find all sorts of reasons why they 'shouldn't do it', or 'shouldn't do it like that' or 'should do another way' or 'let someone better qualified do it' It's life - we might feel better criticising somebody else for their socially unacceptable actions - but commonly they could find things to take us to task on!

As spec c said he wasn't the driver that made an error & crached - maybe there is more to the story than the BBC report - but that as it is sounds like garbage to me!

Very sad to read this. Quite a few maimed lives. The dead guys family, the guy in jail who, with a fifteen year driving ban is effectively banned for life, a big punishment on its own, and his family, kids who were with him to grow up without him and the knowledge, his wife, parents and so on.
Compare the punishment with that of the "Clockwork Orange Gang" on the Embankment who were ONLY found guilty of manslaughter by some perverse decision by the CPS and it seems that this guy, no matter how big a fool has been treated quite harshly.
As I was reading this post JJJones took the words out of my mouth.
"It takes two to tango"
You cannot race without a willing competitive egotist. You can choose to ignore the chump or let the red mist take over.
