Default Key/Unlocking Problems on 03 WRX

Hi all,

sorry if this has been asked but the search is off and can't find any ref to this.....

the unlock/lock button on one of my keys has stopped functioning. it just won't do the remote alarm/locks thing anymore.

it was the one that was used most out of the two and it's nearly 3 years old now.

is it a battery issue? can the batteries be replaced without visiting my not-so-local subaru dealer? anyone done it themselves?

thanks for any replies.

AB.

That would be my first port of call. Batteries are freely available away from main dealer.

What type and model of bateries does the remote key take? I think I may need to re-new mine fairly soon.

i was having exactly the same problem recently. Thought it was the battery as my alternative keyfob worked first time. Check the bettery and it was kickin out the right voltage.

It happened to the dealer when I had it serviced recently and they have replaced my key transmitter for a new one 'under warranty' and it's working fine now.

If its just batteries, look in the Pound shop or similar. You can get a big strip of different size watch batteries for a quid. One of the bigger ones should fit your fob. I don't know what dealer charges, but I bet its more than a quid!

Had the same problem with my 05 STI. The car suddenly didn't recognize the key fob code. This was made worse cos I had to open the car with the key, alarm ringing loudly till I typed in the code on the pad.
Other key worked fine, so I thought it was a battery thing, until I swapped the batteries round, only for it still not to work.

Took mine to my dealer, for them to reset the fob. Sorted free of charge.

I had the same problem with my 03 wrx. It was on the second key that wsn't used very much. Took it back to the dealers and they fixed it f.o.c. but it has stopped working again. Intend taking it back to the dealers before it is out of warranty!

i've ordered a new battery for mine now and it'll be with me today (£1.20 from ebay) - battery type CR 1620.

i'll let you know if it solved my problem, because this wasn't a sudden refusal to work, more of a gradual decline!!!

my problem is that the dealer that I bought the car from (Eden Park Subaru) has now closed and my next closest one is a few mailes away.
