Battery & Topping up ...
.... the little ladies car wouldn't start this morning - I put the 12Volt PowerPack on it and it fired up.
In December it happened too .... charged the battery, but - I noticed that the charging current remained at 3Amps (normally it would drop to about 1Amp overnight).
Didn't think much more about it then as she had to get to work .... but, this morning, I took a closer look and the plates in each cell had no Electrolyte over them .... now, I had no distilled water about so used the boiled water from the kettle.
This was the thinking in the 70's ..... is the water from the kettle/freezer still ok??

sounds like an old battery, most modern batts are sealed for life,
you need to use ideally de ionised water, its only about 99p for a litre from halfords..
kettle water although boiled wont be dionised, although the steam thas given off will be.
providing you arnt to fussed, and its not a brand new battery it should be fine (short term)

If it happens again rain water from a water butt would be better than tap water ~ less contaminants.Or collect the water that melts when you defrost the fridge.
Ice cubes don't count.Unless in Bacardi & coke.
If the cells dried out to that extent then just water on it's own will probably not rejuvenate it anyway. The acid would have increased in concentration & fooked (sulphated) the plates.Even topping up with the correct mix of battery acid will not get past the deposits on the plates.
You used to be able to get a tablet that when dropped in each cell allegedly brought new life to old batteries. If still available you may get another few months out of your old thing.
