Question What Do You Reckon?

My Insurance Company will not allow any mods. to my car, except for Alloy Wheels and a TowBar .... really, thats what they have told me!

Anyway, I quite fancy a louder backbox (NOT a ******** backbox that rattles windows) one that sounds like the PPP Backbox - that was nice and burbling at idle and low revs. but then exploded (sounded like thunder) when the engine reached about 5000RPM ................

Does the STi standard BackBox sound better than the standard WRX backbox? Is it louder (without being stupid loud)?

AND, do you reckon - as it's got SUBARU stamped on the rear face, the Insurance company would think anything of it? It IS a standard Subaru Exhaust, after all??

What do you think?

Pete

it's standard to a different type of car and a different shape to yours, of course it will be ok with your insurance company

poxy insurance company probabally wouldn't notice exhaust on a scooby anyway, all scooby exhausts look pretty aftermarket on most models. i think the only part insurers can recognise as non standard, is a open air filter. there pretty shocking

NO!!! Absolutely NOT!!

I was test driving a Black WRX Saloon with PPP ........... it was knackered, but these cars go better as they get older and ragged.

I didn't want to take it back, I was having so much fun in it

Thinking back, it was the Prodrive BackBox sound that appealed to me .....

I was wondering if the STi Backbox was the same type/sound/etc. ..... I certainly would NOT want a 'look at me' noisy boyracer exhaust note!

didn't you ask this a while back about changing the exhaust?

if you are near renewal for your insurance, just change to one that allows mild mods. you can change the exhaust (and wheels) to your hearts content.

better?

Slightly ................... problem is, the Insurance I have at the moment is pretty good - it allows business use and is a reasonable price at about £300 if I remember right?

And I renewed it just before Xmas ... the other quotes ranged from £330 UPWARDS!!!

This is the prodrive one, was standars on the prodrive performance pack cars and looks pretty standard anyway. I'm quite sure nobody would notice. Noise is amazing, I have full decat but I know it sounds much better than the peashooter twins

I am talking one with SUBARU stamped on the thing .... would a loss adjuster think anything of it??

Thats my only concern .................. anyway, mine is OK at present - how long does the standard backbox last? Mine is now 6 years old and 65,000miles has passed through it!?

Shaun ..... darling ......

Life is WAY too short to get hang-ups about what happens here

I never get hurt by anything thats said ..... I dish it - I have always been able to take it too

You know that I have never reported anyone or anything to the Mods. I don't operate like that .................

It's all about having a laugh, isn't it??

Pete

As an aside ..... would you rather have a pslewis on ScoobyNet ... or not??

You're with Liverpool & Victoria (Frizzell) as I recall. How did you get such a low quote, Pete? It's about 180 quid cheaper than ours, and my wife insures that with 70% NCB!

They won't allow so much as a non-standard screw, I'm afraid.

Maybe its Peter's location? Tadley is the ****-end of nowhere after all; not nearly as interesting as the West Yorkshire Riviera!

My car is happily modded and insured by Liv Vic .,...... luckily they are continuing to insure people with mods who were customers before they changed their rules

It could be that. Were pretty rural where we are, but it's in the middle of ex-mining country.

That's nice to know. At the risk of this being moved to the insurance forum , when did they change their rules?

ppp backbox is a mod and the insurance loss adjuster would spot it quite easily but on a lighter side its not a loud exhuast and works better with a resonated decat centre
