Hi All,

Looking at getting an 06 wrx mid feb and was wondering what the advantages / disadvantages were of buying from somewhere like motorpoint of litchfieldimports asopposed to a main dealer. The advantage I can see for motorpoint is the proce.

has anyone had any experiences, good or bad with servicing cars from "discount supermarkets"? or any iother experiences relating to it.

Also weould there be any probs ppp'ing a euro import?

Help and advice much appreciated.

Buying from Ian at Litchfields isnt like buying from Motorpoint, he is very well respected around these parts. He is a member on here and well liked to boot.

Just be wary that imports are having a bad time with international Motors as they are saying they will not honour warranties . The latest is they will honour them , but you need to check before buying.
I bought my import from Virgin cars , I have to say had no problems as yet but I have not tested the warranty .

The other disadvantage is you have to pay for the 1st 1000 mile oil change whereas if you bought a UK model then the main dealer would pay for the labour. The second hand value is not as good as a uk model .
There is still a stigma attached to imports some main dealers don't like them .
My import is from Cyprus which meant I could not PP the car, but who's to say I might remap at some time .
Hope this info is helpful , on a last note you will have to wait for the logbook for about 8 weeks before it turns up , also check to see if you are the first owner or indeed you are the second owner.

The WRX300 is the old shape though... Power is probably correct because the WRX300 came with PPP as standard.

Just bought my new scooby through motorpoint last week and very impressed with the service and the price. Picked mine up for £15999, then got a cat 1 alarm and tracker fitted which brought it up too £16800. Have noticed now the price has gone up to £16999. As for warranty cant quote on that but in my mind buying from Subaru UK for 20k+ would be madness !!!!!

I found out today that you prodrive woun't ppp a euro import, which is a bit of a mare, and is pushing me towards a UK car but just can't come to terms with the difference in price.

The warranties issue is apparently going to the powers that be in europe to sort out so shouldn;t be an issue eventually.

Any one know where the cheapest UK car can be found?

I'm doing well ususally would have impulse bought by now but am trying to hold on for an 06 reg.

I bought my WRX in November from Motorhouse 2000 in Cannock.

The service I received was very good, with MH getting my car registered on the IM warranty database.

Their cars are imported from a Subaru main dealer in Cyprus. I've just had my service book through with a letter from MH confirming this.

You'll need to add an alarm & locking wheel nuts, but otherwise they're full UK (& EU come to that) spec.

They're selling brand new MY05's for £14999 & MY06's for £16499. You'll be the first registered owner on the V5 too.

Save yourself a few £££ & go for an import.

I have just ordered a new MY06 WRX from Motorhouse for £16499 I have a friend who works there it will take about 3 weeks for the paperwork to come through. And I will be getting 3 year subaru warranty and a really cheap car. The cars they get are on a steady stream from cypress from a subaru dealer apart from the cat 1 alarm everything else is the same.
I will also be the 1st registered owner on the logbook and the warranty to be valid will also be registered in my name to make it valid. Roll on 1st of march.

I checked with DC cook and the My06 are euro imports, was hoping that wouldn;t be the case.

Will have a look at motor house should I go the import route as 16499 is cheap.

AFAIK the Cyprus cars need underseal as well, I imported my old MY02WRX from Belgium, and never lost any cash when i sold it on. saved about £4k in the end.

Been contemplating that too, but not seen any my06 for sale. Would prefer new really, but a UK one with very low miles wouldn;t be so bad.

Just a thought, is there any differences on insurance for euro imports?

Dont forget to have a look at Alliance Car Imports - They offer good prices on Cyprus Imports and you cant fault the service.

PS The underseal on mine was the same as a UK car.

Underseal will be the same as the UK ones dont think it will be a problem, only problem with UK is the price plus I went to my local scooby dealer and they didnt give me any kind of good service hence why I thought I would save 4 grand at the Motorhouse plus my mate got the commission, and Ive had cars from there before with no problems. have a look mate nice crystal grey one at www.mh2k.com

The price you will pay at a supermarket or importers will generally be 4-5K cheaper however you will probably have to pay to have a cat1 alarm and locking wheel nuts fitted if its an import.

The main thing to check is whether you are getting a full 3 year pan european subaru warranty. Some of the car supermarkets pre register their cars so you won't get the warranty however the specialist importers like Litchfields, Alliance etc do so check carefully.

As for servicing you just take it to a normal dealer but if its a euro import car you may be on slightly different service intervals these have to be honoured if you want to maintain your warranty.

As for PPP as far as I know you can't fit these to EU imports without voiding warranty.

Didn't have any problems with Admiral nor APlan. It was classed as EU car and therefore the same as UK spec.
