Default Soon to be an ex-Scooby owner

Well, another one bites the dust... in approx. 2 days I shall no longer have my Impreza (after only 4 months of ownership) as it is being replaced by an Audi A4.

I will miss the performance and grip.

I won't miss:
  • The appalling fuel economy
  • The image, which is now the wrong side of chav
  • The insurance costs
  • The fear of leaving it anywhere in case it gets nicked or damaged
  • The tendency from time-to-time for the fuel to cut off when it overboosts
  • The seats that made my back ache
  • The fact it was so low it scraped the ground every time I got it into the driveway

But it has been fun while it lasted. And now for something completely different...

I have decided to have a consolidation of cars. At the moment we have my Astra company car (100K and virtually fault-free during that time), my wife's Fiesta Zetec-S, and the Impreza.

The Impreza only gets used at weekends and it is just such a waste of tax/insurance etc. so I have decided to chop in the Astra and take a car allowance, use the A4 for work, and if I need something a bit more boy-racer-ish, use the Fester. Hardly a Scooby but it won't cost me anything anyway, as the wife uses it to get to work in.

Hopefully the A4 will be reliable even if it is sluggish compared to the Impreza. More importantly, it's an Avant so the labrador can travel in comfort!

I take it the wife fully understands that your hi-testosterone fuelled needs as a man will now legitimately be allowed to be channeled into your secretary

I did that, you are kidding yourself with those reasons and you will miss the scoob, but an A4 is a very nice car. By the way I went back to a scoob!!

I came from A4 to scoob. A4 was nice but a bit boring. A comfortable car and good for long trips but you wont get any fun out of driving it. Unless of course its an S4 which it doesnt sound like if your not happy with bad fuel consumption. Which one are you getting? The 1.9tdi per chance? If so get the bugger re-mapped, makes a big difference. I had the 2.5 TDI quattro and it was much better after remap and it doesnt affect fuel consumption at all. The bird still wishes id kept my A4 as it was such a good car to be a passenger in. Still, when she starts paying then i might listen to her.

Last year I was p1ssed off with my classic scooby for the same reasons, but with the added bonus of someone stealing bits of my car every couple of weeks. I ended up selling my scooby and buying a mint Audi TT 225, but after a couple of weeks, I was seriously bored of the Audi and was gutted I sold my scoob.

2 months later I sold the TT for a extra £500 of what I paid for it, and bought a blobeye scoob. Not going to make the same mistake again, unless its a Evo or a Skyline.

Just make sure you stay off Scoobynet, otherwise you start getting ideas again, and the Audi A4 will be up for sale in weeks.

I know what people mean about these mundane rep mobiles.

Iv'e driven alot of these kind of vehicles, bmw, audi, merc etc
and it's like a breath of fresh air getting back into the Scooby.

There is no way I could swap it unless, it was for a serious peice
of exotica.

I think if you've EVER had the fast car bug you should just accept it as part of your character and stop fighting the inevitable...

Sooner or later you'll want the hit again...if you don't it will just rise up in some other deviant guise and take you by surprise...

I went from an A4 to a scoob too and almost went to another A4 (S4) but plumped for a WRX instead. When the time comes to become a sane member of society again I will go back to an Audi, with a bit of luck an RS4 but I may have to settle for an S4.

Until that time I shall continue to throw £ after £ at the blue money pit parked on my drive . I will also smile each time the boost kicks in and the flat 4 soundtrack plays

The A4 is a sensible choice, I admit it. The grown up, quiet, comfortable choice for covering 40,000 miles a year in (and they have taken their toll on me!). A steady car, with lots of toys to keep me comfortable.

An old man's car, and I am 29...

The Astra (company car, going back) has the sports suspension, sports seats etc.but it is just too noisy and tiring on long journeys. It's sad to say it, but I think my days of harsh rides, poor economy, bucket seats, lowered suspension...they're over.

Before the Impreza I had 3 Mk2 Escorts in succession as w/end cars. They were basic/noisy/harsh etc. and that was part of the appeal. But I've grown tired of all that, I just want something that doesn't knacker me every time I have to make a 300+ mile round trip.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Oh yes, you'll be back! You'll miss the acceleration - go along to your local Scoob dealer for a test drive, and it'll bring out the chav in you again!

Fuel economy and insurance "what did you expect" ? As for calling it the wrong side of CHAV, you obviously wanted a subaru 4 months ago, and now that you have found out you can't afford to run it so now you think its CHAV, just stick to the real reasons and not trying to make yourself feel better by slagging off the image of the car.

LMFAO, don't make assumptions about my income and not being able to run it. The Impreza is a weekend car, I have a 2.5 yr old Astra for a company car so the Scooby is just a toy i.e. it is dispensible.

TBH I never really considered it a chav car when I bought it, I was interested in the performance and not much else... until people started taking the ****.

The real reasons for changing it are stated in my post - I can afford to run it, but there are other things I would rather spend my money on for the little bit of use it gets.

Yes, fair point, I did know. I have to say though, that the fuel economy (laugh at the word economy) is even more dire than I had anticipated.

If I buy a 3rd car again I might well go back to a Mk2 Escort...

Fuel economy and insurance are not as bad as i expected. Over my previous Audi A4 my scoob costs an extra £7 / month in insurance, big deal. Round town in my scoob i get about 25 mpg. In my 2.5 TDI Quattro i got about the same if not worse. The so called chav image is a myth. Could say A4 has old mans image or rep mobile image but its only someone elses opinion and therefore means nothing. Audi was nice but boring. Just dont expect it to go round corners with their big engines sitting out in front of the wheels, scary, especially in the wet and I had 4wd in mine but it still wouldnt handle or grip. Good cars for a long motorway trip and nothing else.

Ahhh I remember my first car a second hand black Mexico with custom pack (real wood trim!) those were the days but to be honest I suppose my 05 WRX is a hell of a lot better!
