Car Magazine - September 2005
They tried a 350Z in the Nurbugring on GT4 and at the actual track
Time on ps2: 7 min 57.605sec
Time on the road: 9min 03.786sec
The thing is that you would appreciate your life more on the track than in the game.

I think tyres are just details. Face it, on GT4, we all drive like its our last day on earth as if it goes **** up, you just start again. I drive very much different on real roads personally !!!!!! Life and car preservation are usually above lap times in priority when driving for real !!!!!

Here we go,not in NSX i'll add before i get flamed
Just ran 1.18:831 on Laguna Seca in my 840bhp Skyline, been on ages tweeking the setup, put on some soft racing tyres too, Well chuffed now though... feel as though the day wasn't a complete waste, having watched the match this afternoon on sky (I'm an Everton fan BTW).
Thanks for the link Dagoth it was a good prod in the right direction for my setup

It's well within reason, i'd say.
I did about 5 or 6 laps and got down to a high 1.38, so with a few more laps i could shave some more off.
I used the base model (not the type S, or type R) NSX (latest version, 2002 i think). Completely standard and WITHOUT changing the oil.
I'll have another go tonight and put up the actual time.

hi, i used the 2002 nsx type r coz thats what he used, i only done a few laps coz the mrs dont like me playing it lol
loads of mistakes though so a 1.30 or less is possible, i am going to have a really good go at it later, maybe i`ll try the standard nsx see if theres a differance...

Nah, he used the base 01 NSX.
Right, I had another go last night and got down to 1.37:683 for the 01 NSX.
And just to see what difference there was I also tried the 02 NSX type R and got 1.34:824

Yes, i'm using GT4.
Your mistaken though. In the game you have to buy the car in 'gran turismo mode' inorder to use it in 'arcade mode'. So that's why you only have the choice of two.
He defiantly didn't use a type R. He used the 01 NSX (that was the first of the latest shape BTW), so the comparison had validity. NSX type R, type S are Japanese models.
Actually, he should have used an '04 Acura NSX' as that's what the yanks have over there.

My mistake. Just saw the repeat 20 minutes ago and from the screen shots of him playing the game, he was using a 02 NSX type R. That makes his time even worse, and puts the comparison out the window as he didn't use a NSX-R in real life.

Well I just went into arcade mode, chose the latest NSX there was which happened to be a Type-R (didn't seem to have any more power or torque than an earlier model, but I'm no Honda expert), first run did a 1.41, second run did a low 1.39 then got bored.
But I agree with the actual conclusion that you can use GT4 to practice your lines before taking on a real circuit, where you will invariably be slower. First time I went to the 'Ring a few years ago the only preparation I'd had was a couple of laps on GP Legends which was the ONLY game with the 'Ring on it at the time. Next time I went out to Germany, I'd bought a PS2 a few weeks beforehand with GT4 just to practice a bit and I've got to say it was useful. The gradients in particular aren't reproduced very well on the PS2, but in general it gives a pretty good idea of what's what. I'd be willing to bet that there are a fair few drivers who've avoided crashing out for real on their first lap of the 'Ring because they already knew the danger zones on GT4.
