Default Yet another ebay warning!

On Wednesday I was the winning bidder on a 2003 Mondeo TDCI on ebay at £4450, a bit off a bargain, and the guy had listed it with no reserve so all seemed good.
Called the seller the next day to arrange the finer details. He wanted a 20% deposit paid direct into his business account, which i said i was unwilling to do as i felt a deposit of £250 would be more than enough. He seemed ok with that.
Hpi check next, asked for the v5 serial number, and was told he would not give it out as he felt i wanted to ring the car. I insisted i was genuine, and offered to give him the details off another ebayer i had recently bought a 330 coupe from, with no problems at all. He seemed to come round and asked me to call back on Friday and he would have all the details.
In the meantime i did a bit more checking, and found that a guy who had placed a bid at an earlier stage actually had an identical Mondeo for sale, same colour, same prefix, same date of 1st registration, same mileage, spec, and location, but different mobile number. Went through the checkout again on ebay to see if i could get an address for the seller, and all i could get was a postcode, which when checked came up as a university. Lots of question marks.
So called back today expecting to be able to confirm all details of the service history, serial numbers etc, only to be told again that i would not be getting the details i needed for the hpi check guarantee.
I straight out said i would not be willing to buy the car unless i was able to carry out a full hpi check, to which he replied, "well ok but if you can leave me positive feedback great".
He had another Mondeo ending tonight on ebay and i thought it only right to leave negative feedback to warn potential buyers of possible problems they may encounter, ie unwillingness to provide adequate info for a full hpi, plus demand for 20% deposit.
I then got a nice call this evening telling me i was the conman and i would be reported to ebay. Guy also left me feedback saying i tried to pass dodgy money.
From falsey advertising mileages, shill bidding, no landline, no postal address, no serial number for V5, things could'nt have been clearer.
Just glad i kept my money in my pocket but sure someone along the line will get caught.

edited because i had 2002 and not 2003 down for year of car.

Gay boy gypo w*@ker-what the hell is all that about. An absolute nutter. Shame you have to have that type of feedback on your ebay account mate. Cant you mail ebay and ask them to clean it up a bit?

Bang out of order imho.

Never buy a car from someone with only 1 feedback. I thought that was obvious!

All 3 cars are rough as guts anyway particularly the last one which would pull in at every pub on the way home. Taxi anyone?

Scammers wouldn't be on e-Bay if e-Bay didn't make it so easy for them.
About time e-Bay cleaned their act up.

It is amazing when you look at the level off abuse he used, but to be honest i do not really care about the feedback, i only use it for buying now and if any future sellers have a problem due to the allegation of dodgy money i will happily give them a call.
I do feel relieved that i did go to meet him with over £4000 in my pocket to pick it up, god knows what bother would have been waiting.
As far as sellers with low feedback, at the end of the day everyone has to start somewhere, but you just have to be extra cautious.
As long as ebay is making money i don't think they will ever be too concerned about the scammers, although have noticed they have banned the use of Western Union as a payment method. I tried to find out how i would report the shill bidding, could not find a link anywhere.

You live and learn, at least i did'nt lose any money over it, apart from a few phone calls.

Default HPI

I see on the original ad there is the ebay link for an HPI check. Why didn't you use this instead?
Just curious as never used the link for HPI through ebay as yet...

that actually was the link i used, £6.99 to tell me that the reg number was correct, but it wanted the serial number from the V5 before it could offer the guarantee, which is why i asked the seller for that info.

I think his language used in his reply sums him up. I have had issues such as a guy who has just took my money and left Ebay when I tried to purchase some brake discs he advertised. I left negative feedback, but in a proffessional manner. I am now claiming for my money back through Ebay.

I would noy buy from a guy who uses language like that as he obviously hasn't got the intelligence to see beyond his rage !!

QUote
"
do not use email to contact me, phone xxxx

Unquote"

has scam written all over it, or a hijacked account

Unhappy

Having been on ebay and with paypal for many years i can safely tell you all that ebay and paypal do not give a monkeys, I've been ripped off a few times in the past (not for a lot but still) and even this paypal/ebay protection upto xxx amount is a load of bull aswell, the last time they refunded me £2.27 out of the £22.27 i got ripped of and said that if funds ever become available in the fraudsters account i will receive the rest, Yeah right that was six months ago. I cant believe with all this fraud protection hike they plaster everywhere that they get away with it so much. Like someone pointed out above, they make that much money they just dont care, but like me, theres plenty of suckers that just keep going back as its a usefull place and can make people a lot of money

ebay support will remove that feedback for you because it has swearing in it, BUT they will probaby also remove whatever you left for him at the same time automatically.
