Default Selling a Private Plate

Guys,
before i bought my scoob, i owned a saxo, i still have it. i need to sell it, but it has private plate on it, this was on the car when i purchased it, but thought i might as well make myself some exta money by selling the plate.
the car is no mot'd and is declared SORN, at the minute.
so how do i go about selling plate?
cheers

you need to find a buyer first! thats the hard part

i sold my BMW to a mate with my plate M9 ADD on it 2 months ago. still only a sniff wanting it for around £500. i'd probably take £650.

although i may transfer it to the scoob once my warranty is sorted out.

i don't think the SORN will change anything from normal.

once you've got a buyer www.dvla.gov.uk will let you print off the transfer forms

they will advertise it for free, and take a cut on the sales price probably 10-20% or so.

you set the price net you want back, and will add their fee on top.

they won't buy it off you (unless you have something like B3 CKS or PEN 1S and only want a few hundred £ for them!).

Can you get a retention certificate or transfer a registration mark if the vehicle is not taxed and MOT'd??? Is there no inspection takes place of the vehicle???

The car has to be taxed and mot'd to sell a plate.

IIRC you can only do it for the first six months its on a SORN- otherwise you'll have to tax it to get it off

i do p plates regular and the donor car has to be road legal.. ie taxed motd and insured .. though not sure if the sorn counts.. you will defo need mot though... you can then put plate on retension .. about £125 they will give the saxo a new plate .. most often age related.. so you need to go to your local dvla office with all relevent paperwork and your money .. and then they can sort this for you.. you can then sell the numberplate not before ... contact local dvla office for full details.. may not be worth time and expence though
