Spilled Oil on the Engine
Alright Folks,
As the topic suggests i'm a donkey and done an oil change on saturday.
Only problem is when re-filling the oil i spilt a bit just behind the filler, as such it got on a bit of the metal case of the engine plus a bit on the cambelt plastic cover... I cleaned this with a kitchen roll but obviously couldn't get all of it, as such when stationary there is now a smell of burning oil, when driving it isn't there but i guess its just getting blown away....
Any suggestions on how to get rid of this or will i jus need to ride it out, if so anyone any idea how long it'll take?
Cheers
Chris

Just let it burn off if you have wiped it all away. And if it's really annoying, let the car idle for a bit. Once hot it will not take long for it to go, as long as you've got the worts of it, and within a day or two you'll not notice it.

I did exactly the same thing last week, and I've lost count of the number of times my car has come back from a service smelling of burning oil for a couple of days. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see smoke or it persists.

I done it on Saturday then didn't really use the car much yesterday, same this morning. I'll give it another couple of days and if its still there i'll try and clean it (somehow)
If all else fails i'lll take off the oil cap, put a sock over it and pretend i have an M3 lol, should soon forget about the smell.....

Can wash it off with some brake cleaner, or degreaser. Or CD2 (seeing everone here seems to have it (degreaser in a fancy tin
) if it bothers you that much.
