12 days in to scooby ownership
well im 12 days into owning a my 03 sti with 20k miles on it and is absoulute mint with ppp on it.
and altho the car look superb. im not sure if i like it or not. i really really want to like it but a few things are niggling at me like:
1= the power delivery doesnt always seem very smooth is this a scooby trait?
2= its been dyno'd a week ago and has 291.7 bhp but just doesnt seem fast enough [i mite be 2 fussy having come from a e46 M3]
3= the subaru quality?? bonnet flexis [is it because its alloy?] the rear spoiler moves at an alarming rate when gunning it.
4= also i can hear the turbo sumtimes [its sounds like a deep whiring sound rather than a whistle like cosworths make is this normal?
5= also im not to convinced my local dealer knows enough about the car to look after it properly they have been very unhelpfull so far..they are constitution motors in Norwich any one hadf any dealings with them??
sorry to be a pain in the ****. but really would appreciate any help or advice guys...
please help me fall in love with my scooby
regards Lee

Congrats on your car! Hope you fall in love with it, give it time. Here is my experience with the questions you raised
1= the power delivery doesnt always seem very smooth is this a scooby trait?
I found this too, After i had the car remapped the power delivery seemed much more smooth and took the jerk of the turbo out, kind of miss it but greatly appreciate the increase in driveability!
2= its been dyno'd a week ago and has 291.7 bhp but just doesnt seem fast enough [i mite be 2 fussy having come from a e46 M3]
Mod it! Your 300 hp now has to go to 4 wheels where your BM only had to power two. Again a remap will help release extra horses as well as a exhaust/ free flowing panel filter and maybe a boost controller
3= the subaru quality?? bonnet flexis [is it because its alloy?] the rear spoiler moves at an alarming rate when gunning it.
Yep, lightweight lots of speed, stuff starts flexing. Can't say I have noticed the bonnet flexing but you are right it is aluminum. My rear wing was flapping all over the show and as a result had stress cracks, I have recently replaced it with a two piece Carbon one, doesn't appear to wobble alot any more
4= also i can hear the turbo sumtimes [its sounds like a deep whiring sound rather than a whistle like cosworths make is this normal?
What revs are you talking about? When in low revs spooling up, it does make a lower tone, soon as it spools up it whines and whistles
5= also im not to convinced my local dealer knows enough about the car to look after it properly they have been very unhelpfull so far..they are constitution motors in Norwich any one hadf any dealings with them??
Nope

as for the exhaust it isnt a standard one i dont think?
think it maybe a ppp with superflow/sports cats on it? is this standard.
i know that the airfilter is the standard onetho.
im going to take it to a specialist and let them play with it abit can you recomend one? im not bothered about distance.
also as subaru dealers seem pants im not really bothered about keeping the 10 months manufactures warranty thats left on the car
also mate what exactly does the boost controller do
apoligies in advance for sounding like a thickoonder2:

Where to go depends on what product you want, as different places tune different brands. I had mine fitted with HKS products that require a HKS powerwriter, can't comment on other products but ECUtek and Apexi etc. all offer ECU's. Boost controller is a device that enables your turbo to run more boost. More boost = more power! If your not bothered about warrenty then I might recommend getting a tull turbo back decat for the noise and breathing capacity. If your budget isn't small, a boost control and ecu remap should see you into 380 bhp area .

I'm based in Norwich and bought my car from Constitution Motors, took it there for the first year of ownership and had no problems with them. Always tried their best to help me. Will now be taking it to scoobyshack.

Give Kev a call at Scoobyshack, tell him what problems you are experiencing and he will point you in the right direction 07716549186 & 07716549187
I took my car to clive's a month or so ago for my 60 k service and had no problems with them.
Car will be going back Scoobyshack in the next couple of weeks to have a decat downpipe fitted
