Interesting question, and one that is close to my heart

Basically the problem with STi's as i see it is that they have great top ends, but use the same crank as the bottom turbo models. So you'll have a car that redlines at 7000 rpm and produces 240PS (early WRX), and the same crank on say a version 5 STi Type RA 300PS and 8000rpm). Show me an STi with average or even low mileage that hasn't needed or will soon need a bottom end rebuild and i'll eat my hat. I'm very wary of STi's. I'd really like one but they always end up knocking and it's too pricey to even think about. They just aren't built to take 300PS at 8000rpm. Sure they do it for a while but someone always ends up paying bid time.

Question

I was actually wondering about the gearbox, diffs and driveshafts.. if they are the same or of equal strength as the turbo models are?

Anyone?
