Illegal signage / road markings
I saw part of a TV programme the other week about illegal use of roadsigns and roadmarkings. It may have been the Tonight show or something, I didn't see any posts about it turn up on the BBS.
Disabled parking bays marked out in Yellow as opposed to white - not recognised in law
Double yellow lines which are chipped off or worn off the road surface - not recognised in law
Double yellow lines not correctly terminated - not recognised in law
ANY speed limit sign with a flourescent yellow background - not recognised in law.
There were a host of others pointed out by a retired traffic cop who is now making a killing getting people off becasue the highways agency or whoever have cocked up in manufacture / installation of the signs and markings, and in some cases there have been contradictory signs and markings applied.
From memory there is £3M of revenue which needs to be refunded inone area of the UK because it has been proven at law that the signage was illegal.
There were some issues too about roadworks and an interesting experiment under controlled conditions with a commonly used mobile speed camera.
Good viewing.

PS - think the reference document was the 1991 Road Traffic Act - but stand to be corrected

I'm currently being done for driving through a junction in Edinburgh at the moment that is apparently only open to taxis, cycles and buses. After some investigation I found the signs were illegaly prescribed under "The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 (SI 2002/3113)", in addition to this the officer who issued the ticket wrote the wrong location on the ticket and I've so far been refered to as "Ms Buchan" in correspondance with the officer in charge at the police station. There are so many mistakes with the signage on our roads it's always worth looking into what they should say to see if they're wrong. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go to court to prove it...
