Which bit am i being stupid about? Depreciation or the fact that once the car has left the forecourt and lost its largest slice of depreciation? Hence picking up one on an 03 or 53? They are very sought after and appear to be holding there price? Maybe i'm wrong......

It might of done a large amount of depreciating at the 2 year old point but I think you will still loose 4-5K in the next 2 years. I bought a 53 STI PPP 2 months ago for £16K and think they are great value but I am sure it will keep going down for quite a while yet.

P1 - but for get the bit about loosing money.
Scooby = Depreciation (like most cars), it's just the amount of depreciation you can accept which may sway your choice.
As many have said on here you can get a 53 plate Sti 8 with PPP for about that money, cracking car, but would it be worth spending a bit more and getting an 05 plate with DCCD, or waiting and getting a new "Hawkeye" 2.5ltr Sti with PPP when they start to become available in about 6 to 8 months time.
Personally if I was in your shoes I'd go for a P1 now and then swap that one for one of the new Sti's in about 12 to 18 months, if you look after the P1, don't mod it too much it will retain it's value.
IMHO
