Default Buying an 01 WRX PPP

Hi folks,

I am going to look at a 01 WRX PPP on Wednesday with a view to buying the car. Is there anything in particular that I should check out on the car?

I've already done an HPI check and that's all clear

The car has 50,000 miles, FSSH, all documentation from new, 2 owners and looks to be in stunning condition. The history is superb and the car sounds like is has really been looked after. The chap actually had the 60,000 mile service done when it was on 43,000 including the cambelt.

Any advice would be very much appreciated

Cheers
Mike

Question

I've got my 50000 mile service due on my MY01 WRX PPP at xmas.... the cambelt is due to be changed on this service (i'll have done only 33k miles) not the 60k six year one.

Might be worth checking why he thought it was due at 60k???? Thats not in the schedule

No real problems to report...

Only 'common' issues I know of are rear strut rattle and juddering clutch when cold, if it has been serviced with Subaru and these problems occured they would have been resolved under warrenty though. Also if the PPP was done with the 'piggyback' chip used on the first bugeye PPP's, it's not all that effective and rather lumpy, (my 01 PPP put out 220HP and 234ft/lb of torque, no where near Prodrives figures) later PPP's where the ECU was re-mapped are an improvement..

Lightbulb Well...

I sold my bugeye @ 49K and it had started to wear out a few bits..

If I was purchasing another...

I would want to see new discs (at least at the front if not all round) and pads too.

Front ball joints linkage thingee (cant think of proper term) the odd clunk on full lock will develop into a regular knocking on the road.

New clutch - mine was replaced at 25k and when you're at 50k it mage me wonder how much longer it would last.

Worn front seat bolsters can begin to look shabby (haggling point).

Would want decent tyres with decent tread and even wear (get a gauge).

Paintwork known to be crap quality - so look for stone chip touch ups...

Excellent cars, but remember at 50k plus they aren't "new" by quite a bit.

ALSO they need springs and alignment (4wheel computer alignment from a specialist)

THEN up-pipe and down pipe (massive difference in spool up / real world driveability)

REmap Ecutek and rest of exhaust to set the baby free

Finishing with green panel filter

(not necesscarily in that order)

Best of Luck...

Oops, I got the year of the car wrong. it's actually a 51 car and was registered in October 01. The PPP kit was fitted by the supplying dealer in Jjanuary 02. Do you think this would have the remapped ECU? How would I be able to tell?

The car has a faultless history and really seems to have been looked after by the first owner. There is every single receipt and invoice since new so I'll have a look through that and see if it's had a clutch or brakes recently.

I may have got the details wrong for the cambelt change. it was certainly done at the last service (when the car had 43,000 miles on it) but I'm not sure what service this was on the book (if that makes sense)

I'll check it out on Wednesday when I see the car. I can't wait!!! What do you think?

My service schedule states that the cambelt is due at 60,000 miles. Might be different servicing though as mines a MY03 WRX but i wouldnt have thought so. Only other reason i can think of if its less mileage is that it will be due if the car is 6 years old.
